King's Bounty 2 is everything that fans of turn-based strategy games have been clamoring for. The conventional RPG features are nearly flawlessly done. From beginning to end, the fight is hard and entertaining. The narrative is dark, touching, and moving. Simply put, this game has it all.

It's no simple task to build on a series that dates back to the early 1990s, but that's exactly what 1C Entertainment aims to accomplish with the release of King's Bounty 2, a real-time RPG featuring turn-based combat and a unique army management system.

Modern RPGs have traditionally moved away from the turn-based tactical approach of the past, preferring instead to update everything with flashy real-time whatevers and gizmos. As these reimaginings of the traditional model continue to throw a pall over my childhood's turn-based foundations, I wait for that brilliant beacon of light, that one game daring enough to declare that turn-based is just superior.

I realize how cheesy it sounds, but nothing makes me happier than a wonderful turn-based RPG, and that's precisely what I've been playing lately.

King’s Bounty 2 Review

It just took a few seconds beside my beloved horse to see how far this game has progressed. Rarely does a franchise progress in such a profound and fanciful way - consider the early days of the Grand Theft Auto series or The Witcher 3's amazing jumps. King's Bounty 2 is the most significant advancement of 1C Entertainment's strategy-based RPG to date. The previous games mostly used an isometric perspective, with visuals that were more akin to a cartoon than a genuine portrayal of a high fantasy world. King's Bounty 2 immerses players in a breathtaking third-person gaming environment brimming with charm and personality. While its visuals and environments have seen a massive overhaul, the core features of the franchise remain strong.

The sequel to King's Bounty is a mild blend of RPG and strategy. You travel through lively villages, explore scary graveyards, and plunder boxes and coffers galore while controlling the main character in third-person. It has everything a fantasy RPG should have, and while much of the aesthetic is familiar, it's the main character's personality and battle that let King's Bounty 2 carve out its own place in the RPG world.

The main character never engages in combat. You can obtain legendary gear, learn strong spells, and enhance your friends, but you'll always be on the periphery of battle, watching as your well-planned army slaughters everything in its path. The fundamental combat mechanics in King's Bounty 2 are a mix of turn-based fighting and contemporary tactical unit management. You may employ a diverse range of soldiers, including gargoyles and eagles, as well as savage wolves and chubby dwarfs with flamethrowers. Each unit has a distinct play style, levels up, unlocks new talents, and adds unique strengths and weaknesses to your army.
