What do you think?

This is really good! The art style is great as well as the music. I love the mix of mini games too! Nice way to break things up. But that's not to say the main gameplay was repetitive because it wasn't at all! Shooting felt really nice and the picking up the shards was sooo satisfying. Nice job!

Vis. aesthetics homogenous and attractive, nicely organized as a whole. A pity, it was tough for me. Touch controls, huh!

Wow this game is so well done for a 2-week jam. The art style is very fitting. I can't believe how much content is here; it's even got mini-games (that are fun to play no less)!

Even after getting pretty far I still wondered what other cool things were out there to find

Wow super neat game! The colour palette was very pleasing and I was a fan of the music. The gameplay was quite nice and give a great feeling of exploration. I enjoyed the different minigames, I thought they were a really great touch. Enjoyed my time with it, nice job!

Really cool game. The limited colour palette looks great, plus the music is nice too (shame that the music seems to break after playing a minigame). The main gameplay is fun, and having minigames to break it up is a nice touch.

That said, the space exploration idea is a bit at odds with the arcade-y scoring system. I want to go explore the galaxy, but it seems the best scoring strategy is just to build one base then keep flying back and forth between it and the nearby minigames.

THE NEW FRONTIER: WIFI

In the distant year XXXX, humanity is on the brink of annihilation. One brave soul, Captain Opera, must now navigate the great cosmos in order to restore order to the planet.

On this journey, he will face many perils, enemies and obstacles in his way.

When he is low on ammo, he will take the scraps left behind by the foes he vanquishes. When he finds himself feint of heart, he knows one can be found near, in the great asteroids of space. And, of course, he will explore many new planets along the way.

His objective? Collect WiFi shards and bring them back to a home base for refinement! The bigger the WiFi score he can get, the better!

The whole world is counting on you!

GAME FEATURES:

  • Pilot a UFO and take on enemies and asteroids!

  • Discover a variety of different planets with mini-games!

  • Obtain WiFi shards to refine back at your home base!

  • Compatible with mobile browsers via touch controls!

KNOWN BUGS:

Yes, everyone makes mistakes! >.>

These bugs weren't caught before the Opera GX Game Jam submission deadline, but they are known of and possibly already corrected. However, they are present in the original 1.0.0 release, submitted to the jam.

  • The game is not tallying up the amount of shards refined correctly, thus giving a 0 at the game over screen. However, the points awarded during the shard refining mini-game are correct, so this will not affect your overall WiFi score. This was patched in version 1.1.0.

  • The controls screen erroneously tells touch control players that double-tapping the screen will interact with planets. This has been changed due to complications with touch controls, and now there is an overlay control for interacting with planets in the bottom-right of the screen when touch controls are enabled from the controls menu at the title screen or via the pause menu (by default, touch controls are off). This was patched in version 1.1.0.

  • Music can overlap on title screen. This was not caught because both itch.io and the Game Maker internal server don't play sounds in the browser until the game has been clicked for the first time. However, game jolt appears to play sounds immediately, even directly at game launch. This was fixed by removing one line of code in my OBJ_MAIN's game start event in version 1.1.0.

  • A bug was found where attempting to pause during the base setup minigame would cause a crash. This was patched in version 1.2.0.

  • Various visibility issues with the on-screen touch controls for the HTML5 and Android versions of the game were patched and fixed in version 1.2.0.

  • A bug which caused the base setup mini game to be incompletable on Android was patched in version 1.2.0.

  • A bug which caused the user to be unable to move using the on-screen touch controls if already shooting was patched in version 1.2.0. This massively improves gameplay on mobile browsers and in the Android port.

  • A bug which caused the user to be given less time to complete difficult mini-games before having 5000 total points was fixed in version 1.2.0.
