I've began Copy's Quest. I'm at the part where fight Copy's dead grandpa. 10 minutes in and this is where we are. I'll continue to play and give updates.
peculiar and rather fun game. i like the premise, the combat is fun because of the challenge though it could be polished out more. the terrain is remarkable. the game is a bit amateurish but, as a result, it has a lot of heart to it. though the later bits feel like you've rushed it.
here's a rundown for some other details:
+ i like this game's version of post-apocalypse - america reverting back to the times of sword and sorcery is a rather nice twist and is surely more welcome than the usual cliche mad max wastelands.
- your name range is rather poor. there's two people in this game that are known as King Richard (Copy/John's dad and the earth kingdom usurper). back when the lotr movies came out people confused sauron and saruman all the time, and when two different characters have identical names it's bound to breed confusion. same thing with Charlie and Charles - it's the same name ffs
- earth kingdom locations and onwards lack music
- the game's combat is nice and the random encounters are manageable but in the later portions of the game it becomes annoying - you can't take 5 steps without being thrown into a battle. wait 'til my 3rd video in the let's play series to see just how ridiculous this gets.
- adding inns to all towns that lack them would solve the random encounter issue and allow safer grinding
+ Orion is so unfunny that he loops back into being the funniest cast member. literally me
- why is it that when Delta joins the party Orion is just deleted from existance? you know that a party can have more than 4 members, right? the formation window in the menu is just for that. bring back Orion.
- the water kingdom was rather disappointing. i expected the party to go underwater for some deep reef adventures, there's even a perfect tileset out there for it but, no, it's just islands. what a pity.
- i like how the backstory is told throughout notes and different NPC's throughout the game but after the second one you realize they're all saying the same thing with SLIGHTLY more or less lore in each dialogue. it feels heavy-handed. i'd rather make no information repeat and present new lore bits with each interaction than repeating it as if you're doing a recap episode in an anime.
funnily enough, for all the game's plot holes and small issues the mechanical part is solid. i've found no bugs. and you can play from beginning to end without grinding, too. here's hoping you adress all the stuff above when developing the second half of the game. wish you and the game well :)
Spend more time on the maps, get rid of the random encounters, and the story needs more to it, I'm not sure what it's about. I heard you asked about a 10/10 rating, so:
4/10
It's okay, i have random encounters sometimes. the grammar would be a nice + but it's not really necessary. it would make your game more proffessional though. I also think the sprites of the monsters need a bit of work. also there needs to be a tutorial.
Did you delete chapter 2?
