just played through the second demo and i have to say that it was a very pleasant experience through and through, and a pretty nostalgic one, at that, since i did play through the very first version!) the revamped but all so familiar locations, the new and old characters (with better designs, too!), the added intro, the battle system with on-map encounters instead of random ones - pretty much everything is better with this demo compared to the previous one!) i'm very glad to see that my criticism from the previous comment for elemental was taken into account and executed well in this demo, too - like with the locations!) they are still expansive but now they're not only a joy to look at but also a joy to explore, too!)
and now for some small, but great details about the current demo so that you could take notes from them, Nick: firstly, the new ui looks fantastic and fits our main character's, Fye's theme of fire very well! also glad to see the "wheel" menu from Ezekiel being used here, too) the opening cutscene is also pretty epic, it gives us a synopsis on the main plot and looks kind of similar to an opening cutscene from one of your other games, Nick - a bit of a deja vu, eh?) next, the redrawn illustrations look awesome!) it was pretty damn nostalgic to see the one that appears where Fye goes out of the cave, too!) the animated battlers really bring a whole lot of new life to the game - just a simple set of animations already makes them more fun to fight - definitely a good addition to the battle system) the tent with the book in the scorched ground provides a great piece of lore, gives a bit of a foreshadowing for the future and is generally a good tool for worldbuilding - would love to see more things like this in the future!) the revamped first meeting and fight with Hayle is amazing!) glad to see that she hasn't lost her touch, either - she gave a pretty good fight! and, finally, the ability to ask around the bar in the wasteland tavern is great - once again, worldbuilding never hurt anyone and in my case only hypes me up toward what's to come - would love to have more NPC's like the barkeep that we can talk with!)
and now for some bugs, text errors and overall problems that the demo has - none of them are detrimental to the overall enjoyment of the game but, still, fixing them would be nice!) firstly, there's a bug with the place where the wheat and wooden fence tiles overlap in Ash Village - you can pass through them like nothing! it's not a big bug or anything, but it's still there, so, just to let you know) the Giften Tomohawk is spelled incorrectly, it should be Gifted Tomahawk Fye makes a misspelling when finding Ryan, saying "it's DEFINETELY too dangerous for us" when it should be "DEFINITELY" after everyone in the village wishes luck to Fye in killing the Naga it would've been a bit better if before they dissapeared a little fade-in and fade-out happened - as of now they just pop out of existance which looks pretty weird) Fye already has a wooden shield and sword with her from the start of the game, so, it's pretty weird that she gets new ones once she embarks on her quest... the outfit on Hayle's portraitin the line "Ha! Ok, that's kinda funny" that she says after Fye mentions that she's not old enough to drink during their first meeting. next, you can trigger the cutscene with Fye paying respects to her mom all over again if you talk to the statue - i guess it's good to visit her statue every now and then, but still - this could lead to some other bugs) the shop in Ash Village also sells the same potions twice, for some reason it's pretty weird that the Item icon in the menu looks shadowed whereas other ones look pretty normal - maybe it's because it's the one selected by default? who knows) and, finally, Hayle's overworld sprite doesn't change directions after she and Fye get to discuss the business - i'd recommend making our favorite Ice elemental turn down between the transitioning so that the conversation looks a lot more natural, jajaja!)
all in all, the revamped demo for Elemental was a joy to play - it was great to see previous concept given a better execution and being built up upon, traversing familiar locations was awesome and definitely made me smile, and the new additions like the animated battlers or the quest with the kids playing hide-and-seek with Fye are all awesome and fit in naturally with the game!) you did a great job, Nick, and i wish you and your brother best of luck in both developing Elemental, Ezekiel and any other endeavors you two might embark on!) take care!
just played through the demo and i have to say that it's pretty good!) although the game is in a state of a "rough draft" of sorts right now, it's still very much enjoyable and fun to playthrough in its short entirety - the battles are tough, the bosses are fun to fight, the locations are expansive and fun to look around, and the two main characters have great designs to them - although, i wish we saw more elementals in the game, but, oh well!) and also, now i know who those two from the cave in Legends: King Arthur were - knew that Fye and Hayle were a reference to something, but just didn't know to what exactly, jajaja!)
there are also some pretty cool and little details in the demo that i would like to see expanded upon in a remastered version/reimagining of the game - like the full-screen illustration that pops up in the game after Fye exits her cave - it distills the constant RPG Maker graphics that players look at most of their game time and are generally cool and unique - it would be great if your future game sported more full-screen illustrations like this one does, if possible, Multiversal Productions!) next, the purple-haired girl and the hot springs attendant are pretty cool NPC's that you can talk to about different subjects - i wish the game had more NPC's like them, though, that would make the game more lively and would help expand its lore... next, the way you get Hayle to join Fye's party is awesome - i always love this type of character recruitment through battles!) and, finally, the Earthen Hot Springs are placed in a very convenient location - it's always great to have a shop nearby when adventuring, and the fact that they also sell free poison cures is a blessing, especially for the battle with Medusa/Serpent Queen!)
but, there are some problems and bugs here and there that i recommend you watch out when making the remastered version and any new games, Multiversal Productions - firstly, in the game there are two occasions on which Fye's old portrait shows up - in the armor/weapons shop and when interacting with the bonfire near the vineyard, it looks a lot more different than her default one - i guess you guys tried to use original graphics at first and then switched to full-on RPG Maker illustrations, huh? also, you can't really buy anything from the shop, too, since interacting with the shopkeep just makes him repeat his dialogue with Fye... next, while the locations in the game are expansive and have some cool places to visit, most of them are just long for the sake of being long, the mountainous area doesn't even have enemy encounters! the places you get to visit are also pretty deserted - there aren't many (if any!) NPC's to interact with or chests to get some sweet loot from... and, finally, the poison cure item doesn't even work, for some reason - it does spend itself but it doesn't allow the player to choose any party member to use it upon. weird...
all in all, this was very interesting to play through - like a dive into the early history of your guys' development!) i've seen some elements that were carried over to Legends: King Arthur and improved upon, and i would love to see a remake of this game sometime in the future, since the concept is, while being pretty classic, is still very sweet and cool, and after playing through L:KA (alas, not in its entirety, but i'll change that later this week...) and seeing all of the cool concepts and ideas executed really well in the game itself i wonder what awesome things might come out of a remade Elemental?) well, that's all i have to say about the demo, jajaja!) Multiversal Productions - i wish you guys best of luck, nerves of steel and lots of inspiration while making your new project!) i'll see you later on the page for Legends: King Arthur, and, until then, take care!
Long before the world we know came into fruition, there were beings who balanced on the edge of mortality and Godhood. These beings were known as the Elementals. There were nine races of Elemental. Fire, Ice, Earth, Lightning, Water, Nature, Light, Shadow, and Wind. They were responsible for keeping the balance of the world in check...but what if they were gone? What if a foe, as old as the humanity they protected came back to their world...what will they do? #other #rpg #adventure #puzzle
