The game is in a general adventure format.

You control Frisk, Chara or Kris.

It has been six months since the barrier was destroyed and you have spent your time working as ambassadors for the monsters.

Now that your work is done, enjoy a four-day holiday!

Talk and cook together to strengthen your friendship.

You can also become more than friends (i.e., romantically involved) with someone if you wish.

HOWEVER, it is not recommended to be in such a relationship with more than one person at the same time.
