What do you think?

I like sokoban, and in general I like playing other's levels and making my own, so I had fun with this. My biggest gripes are that you can't delete objects you place in the level editor, and you can't test play your level. These make it much more un-fun to make a level than it needs to be. Making levels via text files was bearable enough though.

I know this is more of like a technical project, so there's not much to critique in the way of game design, balance, etc. For what it is, I think you did a good job, save my complaints for making levels. The name I used is "pet", by the way.

Love the concept of this game! Rating 5/5.

But there are some things that really need to be improved:

  • Menus are DIRTY, very DIRTY...

  • When the game is loading something, it take 1 to 4 seconds -> it would be better if there was a message saying "Loading... Please Wait" or something like that.

  • I find a glitch : in level Bottleneck (in easy levels), after I've done 19 moves, I only pressed escape, and it said something like "You've made an highscore, enter your name:" (I entered "cheater"). I didn't finished the level at all actually.I've also done a sokoban game, you can play it if you want : gamejolt.com/games/push-crate/56655. Let a comment please!

Welcome to Competititve Sokoban!

About:

  • Compete against your friends in this exciting Sokoban adventure. Competitive Sokoban is a puzzle game based on the original Japanese game 'Sokoban'. The player pushed boxes or crates around the warehouse, trying to get them to the storage locations efficiently as possible. Obstructions, however may stand in th way between the player and the storage locations. This forces the player to think strategically about completing each level efficiently without deadlocking him/herself.

Rules:

  • The game is played on a grid which the player is confined to move on.

  • The player or the boxes may never move through walls or other boxes, although the player may move into boxes to push them.

  • Boxes cannot be pulled.

  • The level is complete when all the storage locations have one box on top of them.

Game Controls:

  • Arrow keys to move.

  • 'R' to restart.

  • ' <ESC>' to exit.

Level Editor Controls:

  • 'B' to switch to the box tool.

  • 'W' to switch to the wall tool.

  • 'F' to switch to the floor tool.

  • 'G' to switch to the goal tool.

  • 'P' to switch to the player tool.

Online Play:

  • The game is also an online community, as you can create your own levels with the Level Creator, after which you may choose to submit your levels to the server where others can play and make it to the hi-scores for your level! This forms a competitive community and hence the game is called 'Competitive Sokoban'.

User Interface:

  • The GUI has three menu items.
    1) Levels: The levels menu allows you to browse the user-created levels. You can also access the Level Editor here and access the dialog to upload your level files to the server.
    2) Options: The options menu allows you to select packaged tile sets and toggle sound/music.
    3) Help: There is a pretty extensive help section where you can read about everything you need to know.
