How does this have hardly any attention??? This game is fantastic
DreamCherry is an NES-style platformer inspired by several classic games of the 80s and 90s. nothing too special-sounding right? ....maybe, I personally think I'm doing a good job considering I'm using Game Maker 8.0, but I'm tryin', gosh darn it! Expect many glitches and dialog inconsistencies, as I'm still in the process of fine-tuning the story to fit the game-play, as well as future ideas and games, and just plain bug-fixing. anyway, enjoy!
UPDATE!
-New Tileset to give the game a more textured look without deviating from the whole 8-bit look.
-Coin chests are now slightly harder to find but enemies now drop coins. basically, a bunch of tweaking to make it not as easy to gain a massive amount of lives. Coins also disappear after 20 seconds mainly so they don't slow down the game any.
-New enemies! A little snow guy that throws snow balls at you and a shark that chases you when you're close enough.
-Cool new rain and snow effects in some levels, as well as birds that fly in the background of some levels.
-Slightly tweaked gameplay physics. VERY slightly.....
-Tweaked level designs and one new level.
Known Glitches:
-When you land on the edge of a platform Juuuuust right, you get stuck, I guess in between the pixel. just hold the other direction and you should come loose. it hardly ever happens in a casual playthrough, but it's still annoying.
sometimes, when you complete a boss battle, you'll be sent directly to the next level before you can get the golden cherry at the end, I have no idea how this happens, and I'm chalking it up to ghosts..... and aliens... it'll still count as "beaten" though.
-various enemy glitches involving walls and other solid objectsFeatures so far:
-smooth momentum-based physics for tricky yet satisfying platforming
-"smart" AI for most enemies (they do much more than move left and right, let me say that much...)3 unique boss battles so far
-15 levels and counting, all connected by a cool over-world style stage select
-double-layered scrolling backgrounds
-3 power-ups (fire, ice, and bomb), invincibility pick-ups
-giant, fully explorable stages, all completely tested and playable
-checkpoints within each stage
-various level environments with some unique stage hazards.
forgot to mention. for now there's a simple debug function where you can skip levels by walking up to them and press F2 to insta-clear them. this is just for testing purposes and will be removed in the final game.
