Me when DAYSTARS
so, i've played the game, and i have to say it is really good for a first try, it looks good, the mechanics are an interesting twist on things we've already seen, and the designs are cool in general
Now, Gameplay Wise? i think it falls a little bit behind, while i'm fine with 1 single night being the main idea for the game, it's too long considering it's 10 minutes in total, and for how slow paced it is, after dying it's hard to gain back motivation to start all over again, specially considering the rewards given for beating the nights are nothing special, so people can just try it once, get to 3 am, experience all of the characters, call it a day, and never touch the game again
I do have to give it something however, the loop is very consistent, which is nice
As for the other part, bugs, the game has bugs regarding the enemies' AI, i had Russel and Pepper Instakill me even if they were still visible on the cameras, and since the DRP for the game over states which character kills you, i can assure you i'm not confusing them, hell, even staring directly at the door Russel was at while it was only 1 am still got me killed as he never left the camera, nor appeared at the door, and went for the kill instead (i do know that both Russel and Pepper can take etiher door, i have made sure i was looking at the right one), so it overall makes the experience annoying considering how frequent this can be.
For the last but not least, there are a few design choices that i'm not too fond about:
while the Jumpscare animations are good, the lighting can barely let you make out what in actual heaven are you looking at, so you can't really enjoy them fully, as all i see mostly is a flashing dark screen
it's a bit dumb that you can just flicker your mouse down to turn on the cameras, but you have to be bothered enough to press the power button on the remote to turn them off, it doesn't even make things harder, it's just an unnecessary detail that's there for the sake of being there
again, Night is too long, no need for more explanation here
The Vessel could've had more potential, they appear out of nowhere just for a cutscene with no context behind, the character almost feels unnecessary being just a Russel recolour, at that point you might as well should've put Russel in the cutscene and that's all
the characters themselves do not feel menacing at all, specially combined with their mechanics being simple, and honestly the fact that the blank eyes are overused doesn't make it any better
the game itself feels.... bland? I feel like it's mostly focusing on "wow this looks good" rather than "this is fun/scary", it doesn't catch much of my interest besides how good and eye catchy it looks.
And besides a few other details that are more of a personal thing, that's about it
don't get me wrong, it is a GREAT attempt for a first game, but it definitely need more polishing beforehand, and i hope this feedback can help improve any future projects.
go skip Daystars to this I'm and straight to going
I FUCKING HATE BONZEE!
Nightstars is a short, but sweet experience. It isn't the best fnaf fangame ever, and it definitely doesn't trying to be one.
Game's art style is lovely, from character designs to colors, everything has it's own atmosphere that I really like. Animations were also great, and not gonna lie, jumpscares made me jump a bit haha
Only 3 characters, only 5 cameras. But all of them are used in the gameplay, which is really REALLY good.
Gameplay loop is pretty interesting too, and I wasn't bored by it. Overall - I had a great time playing nightstars
9/10, really reccomend!
