0.9.0 Adventure mode WIP, a new character, a new skin, less annoying sound and a bunch of fixes!


Quite a pretty complete update.
The last skin in my to-do list is pretty complicated, and as I didn’t know how much time it would take to make it, I decided to first upload 090 then add that skin in the next update.
I took quite a while to do everything in this update and as such there are quite a few details of things I did I have no recollection of.

Additions:

  • Added Brown, it was quite a long process, I did three versions, two versions I dropped after testing due to them being not very interesting and one I kept

  • Added Boss 5 to the Adventure mode: the Mexican!

  • By beating the Mexican, you can get the Mexican, just its skin!

  • Added a few skills to the BES tree (+10% chances critical damages, 15% of damage resistance and 1% of life steal)

  • Added Jim Carré to the competitive mode

Changes:

  • Automatized gift on big updates because it’s a pain to do it manually, in exchange, there will be a few smaller gifts in small updates. So instead of the usual 50k each major update, you get 10k each update (major AND minor) and 40k each major update. With the speed I add skins at, I considered no one would play it often enough to get all skins and it was a pity

  • A bit of balancing for Jim Carré, I though can’t remember whatever I did, thanks to myself for not putting it in the trello…

  • I thought having Brown and White into the character editor made no sense, as both skills can’t work without one another and forcing them onto personalized characters had no use apart from surprising your friend one time in the year, so I deleted them

  • In the Map Editor, left click doesn’t add a block anymore after putting one, it makes it easier to use and also fixes a bug that was linked to it, two birds with one stone

  • You can now use the escape key to exit the Map Editor, however, I forgot to do it before exporting, so it will come everywhere else in the game as a possible alternative to the leave button

  • The calculated cursor position with grid enabled now matches the visual grid in the Map Editor, in order to make it easier to use, to the price of a small shift to the right

  • Changed Skin Selection Screen and Character Selection Screens’ text to better fit in the game, before the characters were called jelly, but as I changed of idea to leave jellies for squares for budget reasons, it didn’t make any sense to keep it

  • Now when selecting characters, the voice does not wait to play the character’s introduction text unless it was selected for quite a while, avoids overlapping with other players too as it only does this for the last selected one

  • Even if I added the possibility to go back to previous bosses in Adventure mode before, you couldn’t get points for beating them again, now you can. Very useful to farm to beat bosses you weren’t able to finish

  • Now to destroy the destructible blocks to go back to the previous level, you must press the base attack key, it allows one to use wall jump skill on the left wall too

  • There was always that big number on the character in Adventure mode but it never had any use, now it does, it shows the number of BES points you got

Fixes:

  • No one could buy skins when having the exact number of money needed, you had to have more, so I fixed it

  • Red skill 1 with custom characters was not working

  • Leave button not working for X reason I don’t remember of

  • The camera was too zoomed sometimes in mouse mode

  • Green was sharing its mine with other greens

  • Base attack was damaging others in Shadow World even if you are not

  • The sentences of white and personalized characters were always set for player 1 in the character selection screen

Next up

In the quest for accessibility, I'm adding Resurrection Shrines for players on the 'novice' end of the platforming spectrum.

In order to unlock the power of a Shrine, you must collect 3 'Souls' from your dead corpses! (the floating blue orbs)

If you have more of an acquired taste, the restaurants in Niravasi have you covered! Maybe skip the salad bar, though.

Out of boredom and curiosity, I coded Sailor Jupiter's Argentine Backbreaker.

Some time ago, we posted a screenshot of the Mexico level. A curiosity about it is that, like some other scenarios of the game, it was inspired by a real landscape, The Basaltic Prisms of Santa María Regla. It is one of the natural wonders of the country!
