1.4 is released and brings with it a lot of additions and changes.
Added:
-Regions, replacing the old menu system
-Two new levels in the new region, Eridani
-New soundtrack for the Special Stage.
-One new enemy type
-New visual effects (tracks in the ground)
-Snowy weather with snowfall particles more refined than seen in Beta 1.2-1.3
-Decorative HUD borders for new game modes.
Changes:
-Pentagun can now have levels 5x as large as before.
-Enemy stats have been tweaked, some are now slower.
-The menu system is MUCH faster now. No more slow fades.
-Special weapons now cost about half as much as they did before.
-Reduced the damage you take from enemy bullets.
-Player bullets will now fly through enemy bullets rather than destroying the bullets, making the enemies themselves easier to hit.
-Scoring system has been changed. Rather than basing scores on perceived difficulty, it now uses an algorithm, which is as follows:
Score = 100 e(h) + 25(p)
e = Enemy speed
h = Enemy health
p = Strength of the projectile that the enemy shoots (if any)
Fixes:
-Fix for an issue that made some damaged enemy variants immune to special weapons.
-There is no longer a weird pause after clearing high scores.
-Fixed an issue which would not end the game if some enemies collided with the HUD at the bottom.
-Fixed some minor rendering issues.
Removed:
-Removed the old menu system, replacing it with Regions.
-Removed a blank level that was likely meant to be the Boss Battle, which was scrapped in 1.3.
-Removed the in-game guide.
Known Issues:
-Applies to users with Nvidia graphics using “Adaptive” power settings. Pentagun is not demanding enough to switch the graphics card to its high-performance mode, it will remain in its power-saving mode. Depending on the graphics card, playing the game in this power-saving state MIGHT yield some pretty nasty slowdown. Switching the power mode to “Prefer Maximum Performance” in your Nvidia control panel fixes this. Tested with Nvidia GT 530, GT 720, and GT 740 SC. When tested with a lower-end laptop (using a Radeon HD 8210) this issue was not encountered, regardless of power settings.
-The system in place for creating “tracks” under certain enemies can be a bit intensive on older systems, though with the graphics cards tested above, it was not an issue.
-The scoring system seems to go wild when the Focus Beam is used in certain conditions.
-The game is now 7MB bigger… :(
