I’m back!
A few weeks in, I got a lot of criticism about Hinterland that I decided I should address. Long story short, the biggest change in 2.0 is that almost every single room and hallway is smaller and cluttered with a little more stuff to make it seem less empty. Initially I was going for “desolate,” but several people told me what I had just looked empty, even lazy.
Hinterland 2.0 is the first step toward fixing this. Rooms aren’t tiny, but they’ve been scaled down. And they’re mostly full of more holes, dirt, scratches, and paper, but I’m aiming to put together a more diverse array of house clutter that doesn’t interfere with the story but makes the place look less bland.
Full changelog:
-Changed the size of almost every room
-Added clutter to almost every screen to make the game feel less empty. In keeping with the game’s theme, some of this clutter is interactive.
-Various bug fixes and visual enhancements (now with 100% more animated maggots!)
-Minor adjustments to puzzle difficulty
IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
Since 2.0 changes the size of many maps, installing it over a game in progress might result in your character being inside a wall or other object. For best results, try to open your current version of Hinterland, make sure you’re in the middle of a room, then save, update to 2.0, import your save, and load it. If you can move around, great. If not, move your save back to the older version’s folder, move to another area, and try again.
If it doesn’t work or something goes wrong, get in touch with me. I can most likely edit your save for you and email it back to you.
Thanks again, and Happy Halloween week!
