Ask yourself a question:
“have you ever played a game where the protagonist is a disembodied eyeball?”*
If the answer to this question is no, and you’re willing to spend 20 minutes to rectify your (at this point) empty, meaningless life, then you need to play my new game.
Terrance the Flying Eyeball is a physics-based, arcade-style, side-scrolling (hyphenate-hogging) game where you play as a disembodied eyeball… called Terrance.
The game’s major design philosophy was to express the gameplay mechanics purely through the level design and use of colour, without explicitly telling the player anything. This was partially inspired after playing Mass Effect and having the game remind me how to crouch during the final boss fight - I’ve really got sick of games that insult my intelligence, and wanted to make a game where I put respect for the player first and foremost.
The game can be played in your web browser, or downloaded to play on your computer (downloads available for PC, Mac and Linux).
I’ve also implemented the GameJolt API, so players can record their best time scores, as well as unlock trophies for beating zones (and beating them quick). The game also has a special alternate mode for anyone skilled enough to beat all four zones in their ‘terrific times’.
So thank you to everyone who’s played it so far, and to all that are going to soon. If you’d like to give me feedback, criticism, or just say “hello”, contact me on Twitter @AidenBainsGames .
