A really long time ago… a legend was told amongst my people.
This was a story of a human who fell into an alien world full of riddles, death encounters and as many funny, as many dangerous creatures with their own stories…
A kid loved listening to this tale, all its variations, but especially he loved the one where the human returned back home with a newfound family as they brought happiness to all the monsters they met along the way...
And so, a young listener desired to tell the story in his own manner, to bring a piece of himself into it…
After adding another beloved story to this tale, he began to develop the plot, the characters, the conflict, and everything else a good story has...
It happened to be harder than he first thought. The fact that while he was working on the variations, he grew up imperceptibly played its role too. And as the narrator grew, so did his story...
And while some storytellers succeeded and others left, he kept returning to his idea day after day as a young man, only to one day he could still present it to the world....
Eventually, the final form of the story began to loom on the horizon.
Phew… okay, I’m ready for all kinds of outrage and discontent towards me – they’d be deserved, so don’t hold back, guys. But I hope more than wanting to beat me up, you want to know why I came after so many months of silence. Trust me, there’s a good reason.
In all the time since the New Year's Eve post that expressed the hope that this year would be any better for DT, I haven't bothered to scribble a line to you guys. You'd think it's because nothing has been done on the game and it's dead in fact, but for some reason I'm in no hurry to hang a "CLOSED" sign over the place.
You’d be partly right – but only PARTLY! ‘Cause although nothing was added in terms of programming, a little work was still done on my part. Yes, it was complicated by studying, which you had to give yourself completely to, otherwise you risked missing everything and never catching up again (alas, it’s not like in school where you could sleep during lessons and do your things constantly)
, but, and here I want to highlight it:
The work has never stopped.
But then some might ask, "Where is at least part of what was accomplished that last summer? I bet something could have been completed during this period!"
The answer is, yes, there’s something we’ve been busy with for the last three months. Something we had to keep secret because it’s something bigger than we haven't dealt with before, and because we weren't sure if it would work, we didn't let you know. In fact, you could see it today or in November, but since I’m saying it right now that means it worked out, so you’ll see it a bit later. The result will surprise you – it’s guaranteed ;з
Another question, "What’s a deal with that lengthy story at the beginning and what is the ‘final form’ mentioned at the end?"
Here I say, first of all, happy 8th anniversary of UnderTale to you! This game still holds my heart, and I spent these two days beautifully celebrating and enjoying the memories of the game and the good weather immensely.
The second, I almost finished the script. While I have the opportunity in early September to not be burdened with dozens of practices and tasks, I am fully committed to finishing this huge text. Editing and translation will follow, but that will already mean taking DT to a new, long-awaited level: spriting and coding fulltime!
But first, I need to finish the rest of the story. The content of those pages will be roughly like this (spoilers ahead!):
"The Doctor, an old pal and an occasional companion reach [SOMETHING]. It's preventing them from getting any further. The Doctor and the obstacles are such a classic! They are turning around, walking through a place that I imagine is very unusual – [YOU REALLY DON’T EXPECT] [THAT]!! I don’t too, ‘cause it means more drawings and room planning… Hope gonna have some an extra pair of hands by that time. And then [FANSERVICE] happens! Boy, I do love [FANSERVICE]!! More that it I only like to make hints of fanservice. After this service of fun the Doctor goes to [SOMETHING] and opens [SOMETHING SOMETHING]! And then something thrilling happens and the Doctor meets [FANSERVICE] [x2]!!! And just as many old-new characters. I've seen this scene in my head for so long, will I finally write it down? And then, the Doctor and her new team – or a family? – goes somewhere [AND THEN A]…"
Sorry, spoiler limit's up. You know, it's an expensive favor. Hope this will make sense in the future…
And don’t doubt, when it's ready, I'll be sure to let you know. You can't miss it. And the sooner that happens, the more interesting things are bound to happen next. You don't know how much I want to show you all of this...
However, it’s all for today, unfortunately. Alas, this is not what you probably wanted to read, and more pictures would have been desirable, but personally, as I write this text, I’m very happy to get back in touch with you. Even though only a few people will hear me out. But it’s thanks to these people that I continue to work, because there are you who are waiting for this game...
See you later. I'll try to do as much as possible for you in these few months, but if anything, we still have at least two more years to go.
And yes. Happy 6th Anniversary of DoctorTale, dear companions. The adventure is calling…
