A talk about my school music lesson.
So my school has a primary, secondary, and sixth form section for context.
Also for context the primary section each year has a Christmas carols concert where the parents come in and watch them sing.
So we were told in my music lesson that the music teacher had to go to the primary Christmas carols concert rehearsals and rather then getting someone to cover the lesson we had to go and watch it until our break.
We have a 10 minute break after each of our lessons and each lesson is 50 minutes long.
For the first 20 minutes of the lesson the teacher forgot about our existence. People were really loud and goofing around and the teacher didn't care in the slightest.
Then we had to all go to the drama room stage where the rehearsals were going to be and bring supplies with us.
We each had to bring something along with us. That class has hooks outside of it where we hang our stuff like bags and coats.
I go to get my stuff and the teacher asks why I wasn't taking anything.
She thought I was gonna leave my stuff there and then come back in my break to get it.
The music room is outside the main building and a decent length away from the main building so it's not a short walk back there.
I dragged along a speaker which drags on the floor like a suitcase.
I sucked at making it go straight so she took it off me and gives me some ukuleles to carry instead.
I think she thought I was gonna damage it but the ukuleles are lighter then the speaker so she just gave me less work.
We get there and we are told to sit on some chairs at the back of the room.
A few of us wonder off into an area that's connected to the drama room which nobody was in.
A teaching assistant followed us in there and didn't say a word to us. He is a pretty chill guy who's a lot more relaxed then most of the teachers.
The music teacher has a problem of us being in there so she tells us to go back in to the drama room.
We were waiting around 25 minutes before the rehearsals actually started.
I saw some of the staff from the primary section which I recognised and I also recognised some faces of some of the children from primary part.
A girl from my class went on her tablet most of the time and the music teacher told her to get off of it because its a no phone school.
The thing is phones are aloud in our school but they have rules about them like don't have them out in lessons.
In her defence it wasn't much of a lesson in the first place.
It was 9:47 when the rehearsals started and it was the youngest children first.
They did the 12 days of Christmas. They held up cards when a certain part of the song was played. For instance one of them would hold up a card saying partridge in a pear tree when that was said in the song and another would do the same thing for two turtle doves and so on.
At 9:50 we could go to our break and that was the end of the "music lesson".
I found it funny how we did all of that rather then someone else just covering the lesson for our music teacher.
