A quick technical update on Crossovertale's performance - TL;DR: Compatibility between Windows, Mac and Linux, and performance improvements!

Hi! No new visuals to show off this time, but for those interested, I wanted to talk a bit about Crossovertale's performance as a game.

Some of you might be aware that CT is built with Create Your Frisk (a miniature game engine made in Unity). On some machines, CYF has proven to be somewhat lag-inducing. Additionally, it being made with Unity may raise some eyebrows to people who have heard of Mac Big Sur, which supposedly makes Unity games unrunnable.

I've actually spent the last month digging into these problems! We found a more up-to-date version of Unity to use that can build projects runnable on Windows, Mac and Linux with no issues (even on Big Sur!)

And the main reason behind Create Your Frisk's lag issues is its dependence on MoonSharp - in other words, it produces an excess amount of data, because it has to constantly translate between Lua and C#. For Crossovertale, I've decided to remove MoonSharp and rewrite everything in native C#! This is already proving to massively reduce lag, and we think the game will perform better on low end computers than CYF does.

I mostly build 3D First Person Shooter game mechanics in Unity, and in this I'm just showing C4 mechanics I made for a little side project I am working on! :)

Some time ago, we posted a screenshot of the Mexico level. A curiosity about it is that, like some other scenarios of the game, it was inspired by a real landscape, The Basaltic Prisms of Santa María Regla. It is one of the natural wonders of the country!
