A review on Adult Swim’s adaptation of Junji Ito’s Uzumaki (Spoilers to the show and manga) (Part 1 of 4: Introduction & Episode 1, half of the first episode)

The Japanese-Lovecraftian-Horror Manga series that was written by Junji Ito, an influence of H.P Lovecraft & Ken Asamatsu takes place in a fictional town called, Kurouzu-Cho (Closed Town) where it’s plagued by supernatural curse involving things that has spirals such as, fish cakes, whirlpool, tornados, lighthouses, snails, tops, hair, clay, everything that you can think of as in the first episode introduces the protagonist of the series who is the daughter of a potter named, Kirie Goshima who voiced as Abby Trott in English dub and Uki Satake in Japanese dub as she narrates the tale of the events that involved with the curse of the spiral

But for episode 1 & 4, it was pretty amazing but pure peak 2 & 3? It’s ass because the director from the studio, Trigger I.G was different than the director for episode one & four and the animation was pretty much look like this

Episode 1 (The Spiral Obsession Pt. 1 & Pt. 2 The Scar from Volume 1)

The first episode starts with two chapters from volume one as it introduces some characters such as Kirie’s boyfriend, Shuichi Saito (EN: Robbie Daymond, JPN: Shuichiro Miki), Yasuo Goshima (EN: Doug Stone, JPN: Toshio Furukawa), Mr. Saito (EN: Aaron LaPlante etc. as Kirie meets up with Shuichi at the train station to go to school as Shuichi asks Kirie if they want to run away as Kirie becomes confused with Shuichi’s question asking him why as Shuichi explains to her that his father has been skipping work and being isolated in his room being obsessed with spirals as his eyes was spinning around like a spiral

Second, he told Kirie that in dinner time, his father refuses to eat anything that does not have spirals on it, becoming angered when there are no spiral-patterned fishcakes in his miso, but resolving the problem by stirring a whirlpool in it even making a whirlpool when he takes a bath and that made Kirie laughed as after that, Kirie returned home as she’s about to go to her room, she notices Mr. Saito talking with her father questioning what he was doing in Kirie’s house as Mr. Saito was impressed with Yasuo’s skill in pottery as he said to him, “Just a very act of molding clay on the wheel, it’s like your embodying the art of the spiral” as Yasuo becomes confused with what he’s saying as he believed that he preferred to the pottery wheel as he claims to himself with a chuckle that, “it makes me feel dizzy sometimes” as Mr. Saito corrects him on what Yasuo was preferring to “embodying the art of the spiral” as Mr. Saito starts to commissioned him on something that particularly gave him a dizzy feeling as he starts to make a spiral shape with his finger in front of Yasuo claiming that a black spiral would be perfect for him as Mr. Saito becomes mentally insane as he explains that spirals have tremendous potential in abilities in each and one of them exclaiming that is the spiral is so wondrous as he praises Yasuo as a master artist as it leaves Kirie to wonder what Mr. Saito meant by it

Made this meme that was supposed to be before the Revamp update for SCP Roleplay (because before that update, there was a bug that allows SCP-049 to not stay in containment when you try to recontain him)

That film hit me with a truck during my Anime Club sessions in high school as a Sophomore…. And it gets me so hard that it had me to understand what pain & grief mean to be in reality…
