A short burst of updates!


Hi! EleCyon here. As some of you in the SCW server may have noticed, there's been a couple of small updates made to the mod, including the addition of a new tileset, announcement of new skins, and more. These will all come in Update 2.0. To summarize in text:


New Tilesets:

  • A new tileset based on Dadish 3 has been added. This tileset is the first one to make use of the latest mmatyas build's expanded tileset sheet system, which now increases the maximum size to four times the original.

Due to some of the graphics having JPEG-like artifacts when I ripped them, some of their palettes have been slightly altered, but still kept at the same appearance as their original versions. There's also a couple of extra content including two new custom billboards, extended portions of the tileset, and even variants using the Super Cat Tales palette.

The Gawr Gura billboard may have some credence to potential future content coming soon to SCW, including playable skins, so let's move on to the next interesting part:

New Skins:

As I've announced in the server, one of the new confirmed crossover skins coming to SCW is a skin based on the Virtual YouTuber "Nyatasha Nyanners" from VShojo. For her appearance in SCW, she is redesigned to resemble one of the many SCT cats.

Another sneakpeek I'd provide is the confirmation of more Neutronized game skins, which now extend to Ghosts Stole My Puppy (first Neutronized game ever published), Icy Cave, Graveyard Maniacs, and Roar Rampage. (Asterism is not confirmed at this time.)

In this case, the three skins above are the various ghost types from Ghosts Stole My Puppy, including the regular, spiked, and strong ghosts. These ghosts have been slightly redesigned from their original counterparts for the sake of being fitted into a SCW skin, as well as fitting into the art style of Super Cat Tales.

Story Mode: Party Edition

So you guys might be wondering - SCW's Story Mode is very long, and due to the lack of a proper savefile system for worlds and tournaments, everything would have to be completed in one sitting. It'd be a bummer to casual players, especially if they only have a few hours to spare for playing the mod itself. Some may also be wondering if they want to play all the Story Mode levels out of order, just for fun.

This is when I introduced Story Mode: Party Edition, which is an alteration of Story Mode with the following changes:

  • A new island has emerged (see image): Warp Island! Use the pipes to quickly jump to any world you wish to play, allowing you to play levels from the get-go.

  • Locked doors and keys have been removed entirely. Key Shops have been replaced with shops that offer rare items, especially ones that are meant to be used on the world map (including the Cloud and the Swap Token).

  • The ending is now accessible from the start, allowing players to end the match early. A match can also be ended by defeating the final boss.

  • All of the players' starting inventories now have four pairs of world map items which may aid in navigating the map. Flutes are included to help players skip over certain boss battles (which are handled by moving vehicles).

  • To signify that the player is playing on Party Edition: Not only is the Neko House blue, but a new music track plays as well on the world map, which is an arrangement of World Under a New Threat. The song can be listened to here:

Miscellaneous Changes:

  • Credits have been updated. This includes map and skin signatures, the splash screen's credits, and more. These changes are currently not present in V1.0, but are still reflected on the mod's GameJolt page.

  • Thanks to AzureBerylBlue's help, the mod has been updated to the May 23, 2022 build of mmatyas' Super Mario War, which brings the aforementioned tileset extension fix. You can find the link of the original game here: https://github.com/mmatyas/supermariowar/releases/tag/continuous

  • New music has been added. Dadish 3 OST has been added to the ThomasYoung Jams music pack, and new music from the Slime Labs 2 Halloween Event (plus the high quality version of Dave Cowen's Stage 1 from the Flash version of Slime Laboratory 2) has been added to Neutronized Jams.

  • In regards to above, music tracks for Super Cat Tales: PAWS have been confirmed to be added to SCW, but at the time of this writing, the game is still not released so it cannot be implemented yet.

  • Some graphical errors, especially on the main menu, have been fixed.
