It was 200 years into the exploration. Supplies ran out decades ago, despite the fact we no longer require food or water to survive, and the human race has evolved beyond the need for oxygen, instead opting for a blood based survival system where humans simply survive by absorbing their own blood into their skin. Our electronics on board at this point are ancient, merely a source of entertainment and learning of the time before The Great Extinction. Our crew is dead besides me and one other, having cannibalized the other 2 for their blood to further our survival. As I look out the window, our only source of light and knowing what's at the other side of the ancient walls that protect us. The exterior has been dark for so long, only smaller white dwarfs piercing the black veil of the infinite void of this purgatory. There have been many times I have tried to stop my own bloodflow, all unsuccessful. After many more hours of gazing distantly into the darkness, a bright light came from the front, an area of the ship with no window. It was a warm glow at first, but it slowly became a darker red. There were noises, despite the lack of oxygen around the ship. It was a deep, gurgling noise. It was so loud it shook the ship, awakening the other cathonaut from stasis. We immediately attempted to turn the ship, using the wheel that hadn't been touched since neither of us could remember. When we finally got a glimpse of it. A massive, bright red light pierced the ship's window, tentacles seemed to flow from the sky like blood, swirling around the void that possibly once contained them. The other one on the ship with me whispered "At the end of the universe, the sky turns red" mere seconds after this, the tentacles attacked the ship, bursting through the window and ripping me into space and tearing me limb from limb as the blood drained from my body, finally killing me.
