I have been working on A Forgotten Treasure Island nearing on about 2 years now. Many, and if not, all of the posts on the game page were done by me, that includes the models, banners and the whole game page, previous game play footage which were all builds developed by me, and so on and so fourth. The only things not done by me were the animation W.I.P's and some of the logs on the game page. The two owners in which were present during my tenure of working on the game was Undying (since has deleted his gamejolt account and cannot be reached) and Causa but this whole post will only focus around Causa.
Main Reason for post
Recently I quit the project due to many issues that continued to persist despite my input. Namely that the project wasn't being handled well enough and many of the responsibilities that were meant to be the director/owner's got put onto me, and despite this I had little to no say in what would be added.
Despite all of the push back I endured on the project I continued to try and steer the game into a positive direction as there was little to no quality control. Many times random people would be added regardless of how well or efficient they were at their job or what their role was I.E. 10 voice actors and no coders and me being the only person who would model and texture for a while. The owner would also continue to push for things with no real substance other than visual flair that would gain the game popularity to be added I.E. animations for nearly every single character within the office, animations for the characters on the cameras, needlessly complex camera systems, character mechanics and office mechanics, continuous reworks and re-modelings of rooms and the planning of numerous animated scenes which would've required weeks to months of work to even have the models ready and rigged (again, I was doing all of the models that you now associate the game with.)
He then would continue to make posts to simply build hype and completely disregard any of my warnings that he was trying to add too much and just wasting time with all of these additions that weren't properly planned out nor would they add to the player's experience. There were also many times that he'd go out of his way to work on something with one of the team members only for the sake of "making progress." Examples of this was asking for my model of the current office and not being able to wait for the time in which I'd wake up (we are on two separate timezone's so he wakes up around 4 am my time) to which he gave the animator a older model of the office along with a out of date version of the MickMick model along with bad instructions on a door opening animation which then required for it to be start over. This was also a big issue which persisted for a very very long time where he would work with crew members with no real goal behind it other than to feel like they were progressing which would usually cause more issues and cause redos of nearly everything he'd help to create. Beyond this he also never credited anyone for any of the work and it was brought to my attention that for a while he'd post W.I.P screenshots of mine and other people's who worked on the project without ever crediting, again, to simply build infamy and fame for the game and for himself.
Lastly, many many times I would try to discuss something with Causa before having to wait a whole day before getting a reply while watching him talk to people within the server and working with someone to which I would then have to give the news that what he helped work with wasn't usable. A few times I was left without replies for up to 2 days which shouldn't be a occurrence when discussing the future of the game with the owner, especially while working with people in the background and clearly still being active. I was also the one who'd have to give quality clearance on what should be posted and what should be added into the game and even if I were to say something it'd take me around 5 times before anything would ever go through and communication was really really bad the whole way through with the project. I would like to end this section off that after saying I wanted to quit the project I tried to continue to be supportive and give him up to date models and kept a google drive open for the whole team that they could go in and take whichever models they wanted that I had created for the project. My only request from quitting the project was that a very specific piece of the lore be changed around because I found it to be something I would've really enjoyed to see if fully realized within my vision but despite this Causa said that he won't be doing that and he's going to keep the lore as it is against my wishes despite it taking many many days to get him on board with the rewrite to begin with so I can only assume this was done out of malice.
Conclusion
I'm sorry this post was so long but this has been pent up anger from over years of working on this game. The game has been stuck in development hell for 6 full years, changing off ownership but never getting better. I wasted about 2 years of my life on this game making assets, models, making mock up builds and completely constructing the outline of the lore with the continuous promise that Causa would try to be better for the game without fulfilling any of those promises while wasting many people's times with continuous self-sabotaging setbacks and lifting much of my work off of me.
Please do not keep following or help work on this game. Again, almost everything seen on the gamepage was done by me and I was the one doing much of the maintenance of the project. Going forth you will not see the same level as quality and I wouldn't be surprised if the game eventually gets cancelled as I was near totally running it in the background. I'm sorry to everyone following the game, I really really wanted to deliver what I thought was the definitive version of 4.0 but this game was just constant misery and agony to work on. Maybe one day I'll try to remake the full game within my full vision with a way better team but that's somewhat unlikely but I guess stay tuned because you never really know.
