Adventure Games in Unity

Point and Click Jam started last week, and I am late to the party. However, there are just under 7 days left and I hope I can get something done. I plan on using Unity, without using any of the Unity third-party add-ons, as this is part of my continuing experience to learn how to use Unity, and I am trying to learn about Unity itself.

There have been a lot of adventure games made using Unity, games like Claire, the upcoming Jenny LeClue and many others, but there is a real lack of articles and tutorials that address making adventure games in Unity and the issues that arise. What are the best approaches for various situations? To be honest, I have no idea. Should each room be a separate scene, or should the camera and player simply have their transform modified when transitions occured, with all rooms living in the same scene? This would probably make inventory issues easier to deal with, but are there downsides I am not seeing?

After much searching I did find a few examples in the games for Global Game Jam 2014 and the approaches they take are really rather varied. I think I can tease out good ideas from all of them and make a game work, but I feel like there is a real lack of information. Perhaps after I create this game, and work on a few others, I will be in a position to help out.
