Hi, it’s Moof! I just wanted to list the changes made to the main mode of the game in DX Remaster since there are a few things that are different. None of these drastically change the experience but I wanted them documented out there somewhere!
First thing - yes, AEQ: DX Remaster is actually a remaster, that isn't just funny branding. The old game was in an old version of our RPG codebase that was extremely outdated and in an older Godot version. Porting it all was a very tedious, long process and multiple UI, game objects, and assets had to be remade from scratch. There were also many bugs due to porting scenes from old code that had to be addressed. The benefit of this is that it allowed for stronger character and combat design in AEQ: Withering Garten. Anyway, here are the changes.
General
An entirely new menu based off of the new menus seen in our upcoming INTO THE AETHER.
New settings menu that allows for display, audio, and gameplay adjustments.
More visually clear level up screen has been added.
The DEF stat has been entirely reworked, now more properly mitigating damage. This change should only be noticeable in Withering Garten where bosses actually have big defense values.
The INT stat has been introduced. This stat increases healing and elemental damage.
LCK now has a much greater effect on crit-rate.
The POW stat has been renamed to ATK for more clarity.
Items have been adjusted to scale more with your health or SP, so the items never become too weak.
The description of the key item “Lunar Hairpin” has been adjusted.
The descriptions of the “Cookie” and “Soul Potion” items have been adjusted.
Adjusted some skill text to reflect new effects.
Status Effects are now removed after a battle.
Vanessa
The “Dark Desire” skill now does not scale off maximum health of the target (it always did about 3% of the boss’s HP), but instead completely ignores defense. This was done for Withering Garten game balance, since its intense HP scaling property was too overpowered in that mode. The end result is it being about roughly the same power in Shadow of the Garten while it being weaker in Withering Garten
Marielle
Both Morale, Group Morale, and Ultimate Morale, and Life Remnant’s healing get stronger when you have more INT. This means your heals will get stronger as the game goes on.
Slightly reduced Slap’s SP cost.
Vanny
No changes were made to Vanny. However, she is slightly stronger all around due to the reworked LCK stat calculation.
Willy
All of Willy’s elemental skills have been adjusted to partially deal unmitigated damage (ignores 50% of defense), the end result with it dealing more damage primarily in the Withering Garten mode.
Desire Origin’s damage has been slightly adjusted to not entirely ignore defense, making it slightly weaker (should be barely notice-able)
All of Willy’s elemental skills can be modified into multi-target skills, which is useful during the Monique Superboss fight and a certain fight in Withering Garten.
