I honestly feel the same way after trying to mess with the 3D of Nightmare Freddy.
I have to say, one of the inspirations for my Nightmares opening their faces is because in the game "When the Lights To Go Dim," by @Fredinator 
Nightmare Freddy also opens his face.
Another reason is history.
