Dead Containment Devlog 02 - The Dead Reborn
What's In The Release
Dead Containment has been compeltely rebuilt from scratch with every part of the game new and improved. Included in this build is 1 level (Stage 1), which has players fighting their way through a skyscraper full of undead. Also included is the new weapon mechanics along with new guns and new enemies to shoot. Player's will also be able to play together with the new online coop mode.
Multiplayer
The multiplayer side of Dead Containment works by using either 1 of 2 methods; Client hosting and Steam (beta) hosting.
Method 1 - Peer to Peer
P2P hosting automatically works when Steam is not running and a player hosts a game from the menu. A player can join this session by using the direct connect option in the menu and entering the session IP address, not the server browser. Note: The host must have port 7777 open to host a game.
Method 2 - Steam (Beta)
The Steam method uses Steam's networking tools to automatically create a server on the Steam network if the player hosts a game from the menu and Steam is running in the background. Players can then use the server browser to find and join a Steam session. Note: Because the game is currently in dev mode, Steam will show Dead Containment as Space War to others on Steam.
Weapons
Dead Containment features 3 starting guns for the player; The shotgun, SMG and pistol. All 3 weapons have unique traits to distinguish them from one another and are made to be used for different situations. The player can freely switch between each gun during gameplay and decide what they want to use when they want.
Performance
Players should see a big increase in performance from the old release of Dead Containment. Lighting and objects have been optimized to run on lower end hardware as well as improved material and FX efficiency plus many more backend improvements.
Visuals and Audio
Every visual and audio aspect of Dead Containment has been overhauled, from new animations, HQ audio, surround sound to crisper lighting, new rendering techniques and atmosphic improvements.
Feedback
Thousands of you played the original Dead Containment with some of you even making videos and sharing your experiences, allowing others to see my game and giving me some great feedback. I'd love to hear from you all again about this release, the things you like and dislike and any bugs you find, so I can make Dead Containment a great gaming experience for everyone.
The Future
This release is the first major step into making Dead Containment into a full game experience. The plan is to continue adding new content to Dead Containment and let it grow into something bigger over time. Currently in development are a new level, a remake of the original level, new enemy types and full Steam networking integration.
