Welcome back to the Bergentruck devlog.
In the last post, I talked about the upcoming v. 2.0 content update.
Our original plan was to hunker down and see how much content we can cram into the game in 2 weeks.
It is now 2 weeks later, and the update is... not done! Damn...
WHAT'S GOING ON?
So, we might have gotten a little overambitious.
Me, @tizielechicero2 and @Zyiah
have been bouncing a lot of ideas off of each other, to the point that the original scope of the update has just about doubled in size.
Unfortunately, we've also been getting a little bit burnt out trying to run at game-jam pace for another 2 weeks, especially since we all have other stuff going on (classes, commissions, yet another goddamn Ritalin shortage)
Oh, speaking of!
@tizielechicero2 and I both have art commissions open at the moment!

CURRENT PROGRESS
Here's a rough estimate on how things are going:
Bonus levels: ~40% done.
Punchout City (the Queen level) is almost finished. The core mechanics have been added and Queen's AI is pretty much done, I just need to add 2 more attacks, "cutscenes" and some visual polish. This one took a lot longer than I thought I would, but I'm pretty happy with the result.
Dog Race (the Dog level) is still in early stages. Zyiah did a lot of experimentation and tried to concept out a full 3d Mario-Kart style level for this, but the controls felt too off compared to the regular level style so we decided to scrap it and try out a new idea.
Hardmode: ~30% done.
We have solid concepts for what we're going to do with every Hardmode level. I've implemented a new core mechanic for Hardmode level 2, I've started on the visuals for Hardmode level 3, and Zyiah is almost completely finished one of the Hardmode bonus levels (a task that's been their baby for a while).
Challenge modifiers: ~90% done.
Almost every challenge is complete mechanically, there's only one which needs its visuals fine-tuned a bit. Once again, Zyiah really carried here!
Skins: ~30% done.
The system which allows for skin-swapping is complete, again thanks to Zyiah. I can't really mention them enough, they've been an absolute champ with update development here.
I sketched out some rough versions of each skin, which we'll probably get Tiz to draw over later on.
While testing, one skin has quickly become my favorite to use:
Easier car handling: 100% done.
The car controls a bit easier now. Trust me, you'll need it for the challenge modes.
Asset remakes: 40% done.
Tiz is slowly but surely working through these! They've sent in some pretty nice new sprites.
I'd say overall progress is about 50% done. We've still got quite a lot to do, but we're getting there.
NEW MUSIC?
As you may know, Bergentruck doesn't have any original music.
I recently reached out to a couple of people to ask if we can use a couple of existing AU songs for our Hardmode levels, and they've given their approval!
A massive thanks to Grassinio, J-Bug & Jayze and Lunaxis for letting us use their work!
