I find the way many creators think about their projects very flawed. FNAF fan-games are passion projects. If you don't see it as that, why are you making it? It comes off as attention-seeking. You aren't selling a product.
It is ok to form teams for your projects and work with other people.
But please do not run teams like they have to strictly follow your directions or creative vision. PLEASE do not join teams like this either.
This only works if you are paying people for the work, or if they offered it to you unprompted. I would argue the offering doesnt count when it comes to children who dont really understand what they are getting into, if you are older please be responsible.
If you dont have all of the skills you need for your game but want it to come out exactly how you imagined your options are to commission people or learn the skills yourself.
For free passion projects like this people who are working on the project should be free to stop working at any point and should choose what work they do. People should be able to contribute ideas and turn it into something they WANT to work on. It should become less of YOUR project, and become something that is seen as a group effort. If you arent ok with that type of collaboration, you should re-think having a team of people who you arent paying.
I also think it's stupid when projects are so obviously made for attention and over-advertise and market themselves on clickbaity aspects of the game.
Also, why are so many fan-game creators so full of themselves? Both when talking to fans and other creators it seems like so many of them think they are some cool game company owner who you should be excited to see. Like girl you made a fnaf fan-game, maybe a cool one, but why should anyone be expected to look up to you?
I've been messaged by fan game devs being like "hey can you do this for me " or "Yo can I work on your game" without saying what they would contribute or why. like, I dont know or really care too much about who you are, why should I let you on my team?
I have become very picky about who I let work on my projects. Right now it has been limited to IRL friends only because I keep having bad experiences with folks online. And even then I only ask for help with work that I don't have a super solid vision for because people should be able to handle it however they want. Like I would have never asked someone to animate mangle for me because I have a specific way that I want it to come out, I wouldn't force someone to do that for free.
I can't wait to finish this game and take a 2 year break from being a fnaf dev lol
