Good news: We found the problem!
Bad news: Turns out the SSD was literally degenerating and burning holes in the transistors. Most likely the degeneration spread to the Master Boot Record, which prevented it from booting up.
Luckily, most of my files can still be recovered, and we bought a new, higher quality SSD.
A warning for all of you if you ever want to build a computer: Don't be stingy with your money when shopping for an SSD. You'll regret later.
