A security worker, mother-of-three and a health worker are among the dead after a mass shooting broke outside the largely popular “Dog ‘n’ Mouse’s Food and Fun” in the early hours of Friday morning. The attacker, a male in his early 20s, shot and killed 12 people outside the restaurant before fleeing the scene. His identity is currently unknown.
Chief of Police Peter Marks made a statement this morning regarding the incident, condemning the attack as “cowardly and disgraceful.” He confirmed that a “full investigation has been launched to determine the identity of the shooter.”
CCTV footage of the incident showed mass panic at the scene as the shooter closed in on the building, with customers attempting to flee but eventually getting shot by the attacker. The shooter dropped his weapon as he fled the scene, confirmed to be an AK47 by the Pennsylvania State Police.
Survivor Michael Schmidt spoke to Pennsylvania Today about his experience. “He just ran towards the building and started shooting at people.” he said. “It didn’t seem like he was shooting at random people, it seemed systematic. He’d shoot at some people but ignore some who were attempting to flee. I swear to God he looked me in the eye, but it was as if I was never there. It was as if there were only specific people he wanted to kill. It doesn’t seem right.”
Pennsylvania Governor Dick Thornbrough also spoke at a press conference alongside the Chief of Police this morning, stating that “the US Government are working closely with the PSP to determine the identity of this attacker and bring him to justice. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the victims, as well as their friends and relatives.”
