NOTE
This post was made, reviewed, and played on a DRM-free version of the game uploaded by user @/JuanReviewsREBOOTED. Which essentially, is a review of the game "pre-overhaul." Also, I just watch Zero Punctuation and Second Wind.
First off, I would like to start with; I feel bad for anyone involved in the development of this game. As a (kind of) game-developer who knows some bits on how the industry works, I can tell the team was horribly mismanaged. I have heard about Rafferty (the person behind the game, and the person we'll be blaming for the rest of this post and centuries to come) barely giving a damn about their testers. YES. THIS GAME. HAD. TESTERS. QA. PLAYTESTERS. AND IT STILL RELEASED IN THAT STATE.
This is not going to be a Cyberpunk 2077 or No Man's Sky situation where in a few years or months, this game is gonna become an "underrated gem that was overhated." - There are deep flaws in the gameplay design and all, and I don't think a update can save it. This is coming from the dude who loves Hunt Down The Freeman with the OWF build (No, genuinely—it's a fun little adventure game if you put the OWF beta branch on. The game is mostly fixed, and probably still receives updates.) and is giving No More Room in Hell 2 a second chance.
As this comment says, have some shame on your face, Rafferty. You even got the Brazilians, his own people, including me—beating him in the comments, that's how SERIOUS it is. I think we should all come together, and say "RAFFERTY, SEU FDP"
But enough talking about how HORRIBLY mismanaged the development was, time to talk about the game itself.
THE GAME
My ShareX didn't work for whatever reason, so what you'll see is screenshots of me recording through OBS Studio.
... I don't know why you would go the extra mile to add DRM-protection requiring you to have FNAF 3/a save file when anyone with NebulaFD and a copy of Clickteam Fusion 2.5 can select MFA parser, go on the MFA and remove the frame that does the check. I'm pretty sure that screen with the "hey u need a fnaf 3 savefile so u can play game xdd" is the only one WHO DOES THIS CHECK. I played through the game just fine before the DRM-free version was released with some messing with NebulaFD by myself. No creepy anti-piracy things happened.
I mean, sure—it could be seen as "FNAF 3 but completely free"—but COME. ON. DRM-free versions of this game is being passed around like Candy (pun intended)—so you just did nothing but add an extra frame to waste memory and have me questioning "Why do I need admin to run it?"
Time for the gameplay! I am on Night 3 as of right now and will finish later because I have things in life to do in life. For now, here are my thoughts:
The gameplay, at best as I can describe it—is "FNAF 3 at home." Don't get me wrong, I love me FNaF fan-games that don't require a degree in engineering to keep away one animatronic, but I felt like I was just playing FNAF 3 again except this time you can lock doors through cameras and you have no audio to lure animatronics. Yes, I know it's a re-imagining of FNAF 3—BUT ATLEAST OFFER SOMETHING NEW.
... By the way, locking doors on the cameras make no noise and the only indicator is to check if there's a shadow or a door. I sometimes got confused, but eh, probably a me problem. You have a split second to react to Phantom Toy Freddy on the cameras, or else your door lock stuff gets messed up.
There is nothing much to say about it, so I'll move on to the issues so far.
OH GOD
They massacred my boy, @/Sim_Naum in this game. I can barely hear him, and you don't have subtitles so I basically had a hard time understanding what the phone dude was saying. I either missed some story details, or mechanics that I should look out for.
The only thing I could classify as a bug so far was the fact that one time I was playing the Flying Jay-Jay minigame (yes I think holding W to go up wasn't a bug, but just spam w and listen to the noises lol) when I went through the secret exit and held down A. Little did I know, I just softlocked myself.
Now, the after-night minigame... What the hell is there to talk about? You follow Springbonnie, go near the gift box and that's... it? Fun fact, the music for this minigame is the Showtime song from FNAF HW. The first night minigame was fine, but second night minigame was just the same. Follow Springbonnie. No changes. Did I miss something???
