Auburn defensive coordinator D. J. Durkin has been named interim head coach after head coach Hugh Freeze’s firing today. More below.


D. J. Durkin will now serve as the interim head coach for Auburn while they search for a permanent head coach.

2005: Defensive End Coach at Bowling Green

2006: Linebacker/Special Teams Coach at Bowling Green

2007-2009: Defensive End/Special Teams Coach at Stanford

2010-2012: Linebacker/Special Teams Coach at Florida

2013-2014: Defensive Coordinator/Linebackers Coach at Florida

2014: Interim Head Coach at Florida

2015: Defensive Coordinator/Linebackers Coach at Michigan

2016-2018: Head Coach at Maryland

2019: Consultant with the Atlanta Falcons (NFL)

2020-2021: Co-Defensive Coordinator/Linebackers Coach at Ole Miss

2022-2023: Defensive Coordinator/Linebackers Coach at Texas A&M

2024-2025: Defensive Coordinator/Linebackers Coach at Auburn

2025: Interim Head Coach at Auburn. Will serve as head coach until Auburn finds a permanent head coach.
