Back in the Saddle! - Monday Lookahead

These past two weeks since Christmas have been surprisingly busy considering I was planning on taking a “vacation.” That’s a good thing though. I managed to get rid of a few distractions during that time, which certainly would have popped up had they not been addressed. I still have some real life issues on the horizon (nothing serious, just car trouble and home renovations mostly) but I’m excited to get back to work!

The first thing I’m going to do is try out a new feature. GameJolter @SamuelFoote suggested switching the color palette between rooms. I had thought about something similar, but didn’t feel confident enough in the idea to try it out. Depending on how it looks, it may not make the cut, but I will try it out and maybe show it off this week.

Another thing I would like to do is finish up the crab enemy.

And I’ll be adding some polish to the bear and lizard enemies. I really want those enemies to feel special, and right now they’re actually pretty simple and mediocre.

Last, but not least: Way back in the enemy poll, GameJolter @expat1999 suggested that seeing a pack of wolves would be cool. Initially, I was thinking about just putting a wolf in an having it behave like a standard enemy: chase you down and attack. But hearing the idea about a pack of wolves gave me some ideas for a really unique “enemy” that should be a lot of fun to fight. All I have right now is a concept in my head, but I’d like to have some animation done this week and plan out how the attacking will work.

I want to close by thanking everyone for your feedback. I’m not very good at playtesting my own games, so seeing my work through the eyes of someone else is very helpful. I know the game will be much better because of it. With that being said, I want everyone to feel free to leave negative feedback on anything I do. I’m incredibly grateful for all the positive feedback I’ve gotten, but a good balance of criticism and compliments will make the game much better.

Thank you very much for reading!
God bless
