The latest published version 1.5.2004 adds an online real time multiplayer mode that is available on the Google Play Beta channel and here on GameJolt for the web version. Go to Multiplayer Modes -> Server Multiplayer to give it a try.
Because I am just a single developer and no company, there is no global matchmaking and automatic selection of one of hundreds of servers available, picking the one with the best connection for you. You'll have to do that yourself, and there are so far only two servers available: A very performant one in Europe on my vserver node, and a pretty mediocre performing one hosted on Heroku in the United States. Heroku is a free hosting service for servers, stopping the server process when it idles 30 minutes. If you connect this server prepare that it takes some seconds until the connection is made, the server needs to start first. (If anyone has a server with a Docker container running and is willing to host a server in other parts of the world, please let me know!)
A good connection to the server is crucial for a good experience in playing the game. I am eager to hear how the American free server performs for the citizens over there, as for me the connection is not good, naturally.
The server is a beta feature for now, so don't expect many players to be online for the moment. There's also no matchmaking in place, so any other player connection to the server will play against you - I am planning to change that in the future, so that everyone can play against opponents of a similar strength. That's more fun for everyone.
Connecting to an empty server might be more fun than you think though: I implemented an AI player I am pretty proud of (though it is a slightly changed adoption of an AI by https://leeyiyuan.info/, so the praise should go to him). The AI will keep you busy as long as there is no human to play against!
Try it and let me know what you think. :-)
