!!BIG PLANS IN MOTION!!

THING ARE CHANGING!

So..., It's been a while huh. I hope all of you had a great Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year.

I know I haven't posted much news on what has been going on (I blame that on college) and I haven't touched this game in a bit, but that doesn't mean nothing has been done.

NEW ENGINE BEING MADE!

I am making a new engine to work with. I know that the original Mario '86 has many bugs and is poorly optimized and that is because I wanted to get the game out by Halloween day. Now that I have it out I have more time to work on it, but due to me rushing things I made many poor programming decisions and I'm just scrapping it all. Now lets talk about that engine

FIXES - Things that should be better between engines

  • Koopas all know have the same interaction behavior except for movement styles

  • All enemies now collide with each other in a nicer way (if you noticed a goomba in a wall that was collision jank)

  • Smoother animations for game over and hitting blocks

PROGRESS - This is what I have done so far

  • Added 4 enemy types : Goomba, Koopa (Green), Koopa (Red), ParaKoopa (Green).

  • Added Dynamic and static Question blocks : Dynamic give a power-up based on power state and static will always have the same item

  • Power-ups : Super Mushroom, 1-UP Mushroom, Poison Mushroom, Fire Flower, Ice Flower and Star man

  • All sprite colors are handled with a shader to make a index based color pallet system

  • Mario and Luigi are playable : both with different stats

  • A flag pole is now in the game

TO DO - What i need to do for upload

  • Create piranha plants

  • Create bricks (should be easy)

  • Add menus for the game

  • Create level transitions

  • Create sub areas

  • Create the entity (Final name still pending)

  • Make a simple Two world demo for Luigi kid's game challenge (Not essential but gives a deadline goal)

I'm taking my time with this because I want to make a quality Mario fan-game to honor Nintendo's mustachioed Plumber.

So, with all of that... When are we getting a update?

That's the neat thing, you aren't

I'm dropping this version of the game, like I said, my ideas have changed and I want to go away from MX, that being said, if someone wants to continue THIS version of the game be my guest you can make a new Mario '86 all I ask that is if this is the reason you made it just reference this project or me. It'd be nice.

that being said, the game on this page is currently the "legacy version" of my old ideas. If there is bugs found in this version i WON'T fix it, but I will make sure they don't exist in the new version

Keep your eyes peeled as I will upload a update to my youtube channel Krelyx makes games :

https://www.youtube.com/@Krelyx_Makes_Games

see you soon!

Here's a peaceful little forest scene for this #screenshotsaturday, from the beginning of the game.

Quantum precognition is one of the most powerful cards. End game cards & equipment. Demo/alpha build boss is no match for this deck.

In the quest for accessibility, I'm adding Resurrection Shrines for players on the 'novice' end of the platforming spectrum.

In order to unlock the power of a Shrine, you must collect 3 'Souls' from your dead corpses! (the floating blue orbs)

Spaaaace~

These are background sprites I've created for a game I'm working on at school ^w^ Click on the post to see how the sprites connect. You won't regret it! (personally, I think it's pretty heheh)

Drawn in Piskel using my mouse. Whaddya think?

I worked so hard to get all four of them to the end safely, but then...

Who's is this little cutey👸 here? Thanks🙏 for a gorgeous fanart @WheNa! Feel free to share your arts, screenshots, or videos with #playzelter or #zelter hashtags! #pixelart #animating #unity3d #animated #indiegames #unrealengine #animate #conceptart
