Hi guys,
I'm making this giant FAQ (frequently asked questions) to give as much info as possible in one place. These are the questions that I see (and answer) very often on all of my social media platforms. I'll add more as they come in.
To get yourself started, I suggest you watch my video on the Fazbear Fanverse that I released back in September. Most of this info is still completely accurate (and it's obvious when it's not).
And bear in mind that I am answering these questions based on the CURRENT PLAN of the game. Everything is subject to change.
Hope this helps!
What is POPGOES Evergreen? - It's a reboot of POPGOES. It is essentially a remake of the original game, but you should treat it as a brand new experience because a lot of stuff is changing (including lore).
What happened to the original games/videos? - I've archived all of the POPGOES content that is now non-canon, on this page. Check the description for stuff like trailers and soundtracks.
When will Evergreen come out? - Not for a long while. This game is still very early in development and I won't give a release date. It's possible that it won't even be finished this year, so be prepared for that.
When will there be new teasers? - I don't like to release teasers unless there is something worth celebrating. A milestone in development, or an anniversary/holiday. We are being frugal with these, and again this game is still early on. Don't expect them.
Will this game get a console/mobile port? - That is the plan. Evergreen being a part of the Fazbear Fanverse means that it is possible that this game (and the new POPGOES Arcade) will receive ports on other platforms. We don't control this however, so I can't give any updates or even an idea of how (or when) it will happen.
Will the game be paid for? - All of the ports will be paid for, and we are volunteering to add EXTRA CONTENT for these ports. So if you buy the game on consoles/mobile (if a mobile port is even possible...) then you will receive what we are currently dubbing the "premium" version of the game. This version will include bonus content that superfans should appreciate a ton. This also applies to POPGOES Arcade! There will, of course, be a FREE version of POPGOES Evergreen available on PC that will include all of the lore. Exactly like Arcade.
How much will the ports cost? - I have absolutely no idea. That is not my call, but it looks like the ports for ONAF have had very reasonable prices.
What extra content is in the "premium" versions? - The port version of Evergreen will contain additional collectibles, and we are toying with the idea of a "New Game+" that has five additional (survival) nights with one new super unique mechanic. All of this is non-canon, just for fun. The port version of Arcade will include a "bonus chapter" to the RPG, where you will face off against a new threat, accessible after 100%ing the main game (maybe about 1 hour of extra content).
Can I get the "premium" versions on PC? - Scott has given us the go-ahead with the ports having extra content, and he seems content with the idea of us also releasing these special versions of the games on PC as well, and if this happens then they will almost definitely be released on Steam. Free versions on Game Jolt, paid versions on Steam. Save data will likely carry over, but going from the paid version to the free version may break the game lol. But this is all speculation really.
How is the development going? - Slowly, but surely. Every decision feels right. Every new thing looks great. But it does take time.
Is (insert POPGOES 2 character here) returning? - The Epitomes, Heartlesses, Deadline, etc... are NOT returning. Those characters were for a cancelled SEQUEL. This is a remake of the first game. The only character from P2 that is "returning" in some form is Manora the Mouse, and that's because she's been retconned into something much simpler.
What's happening with Simon, Strings, Gem Stone, etc? - I can confirm that Gem Stone, Grave Stone, and the Lux animatronics are NOT returning due to their pointlessness to the plot. I can confirm Simon IS returning as he is integral to the plot. I am not going to confirm or deny whether Strings is returning... You are expected to speculate who the protagonist might be, like old times.
Will there be a demo? Can I test the game? - No. We might give early access to a small portion of the game to close friends and YouTubers, but there will not be a public demo, nor are we looking for testers/contributors.
Is the pizzeria/map the same? - The layout of the pizzeria is the exact same, but two rooms are COMPLETELY different. As in, new names, new props, totally new concepts. They've been fun to work on!
How different is the gameplay? - The gameplay for the normal night section is very similar to the original game, but with a lot of major improvements. Turning animations, an overhauled Panic bar, a new "vent mode" that is accessed with right-click, and everything is much easier to understand. The "brain minigames" are COMPLETELY gone, they have been replaced with something much bigger and muuuch cooler.
Will the Staff Room and Car Park cameras have a use? - I think it's pretty impressive that pretty much every other camera in the original game had a use! But yes, I know, those two cameras were kind of pointless. Well I can confirm that the Car Park WILL have a use (which I'm very happy with) but I'm not sure about the Staff Room. That camera was always just an indicator that the squirrels were active. Let me know if you have ideas for it!
How different is the story? - Well, the overall concept of POPGOES' story remains mostly the same, but there are some pretty major "retcons" that will surprise (and excite) new and old fans. It is a huge improvement. Lots of stuff removed, lots of stuff changed, and lots of stuff added.
Are you adding lore from FNAF4 onwards? - Nope, that's impossible. POPGOES absolutely relies on a new take on the purple man who has a twin brother, etc. It is simply incompatible with William Afton. Evergreen will continue the rule of only taking into account FNAF1, FNAF2, and FNAF3.
Will the animatronics be voiced? - We plan on adding a lot of voice acting to Evergreen, but not for the animatronics. I don't personally like it when animatronics are given voices.
How involved is Scott? - Not at all really. Scott will give info every now and again, or I'll ask him for advice/feedback on certain intricacies... but otherwise he is not involved. This goes for all of the other Fanverse games too.
How different has it been to work on Evergreen? - Very different. I'm working alongside experienced adults, most of which are being paid for their contributions. There's been no drama, but a lot of discussion and feedback. We're all very motivated, but being grown-ups comes with its downsides - a lot of us are busy with other responsibilities like jobs, babysitting, or other game projects. But it has been the best team I've worked with, by far.
Are you still planning "dynamic weather/night"? - Yes, we're still planning on adding a dynamic night cycle (sky changing colour) and weather (rain, maybe thunder) to the game. This was originally going to affect every camera and the main room, but we're changing this so that it only affects the "right view" (and that general side) of the main room. Should look really cool!
Are you adding the reflection shader from Arcade? - We have found an application of the reflection shader in Evergreen. If Clickteam is able to handle it, then we will add it to the "Simon Says" buttons/tray in the front view, so that it reflects the monitor above it.
Will there be a Custom Night? - Almost definitely not, at least not what you're used to. I honestly think Custom Nights are useless outside of specific presets, max-difficulty challenges, and secret codes. Nobody actually tries to make their own "custom experience", surely? Instead we're planning a series of "Challenge Nights".
Well, what's a Challenge Night? - It's just an idea right now, but imagine a night where instead of surviving until 6AM, you have to find 20 emerald coins in the cameras before the time runs out... Or you need to beat 4/20 mode but with ads interrupting you on your phone... Or you need to play Hide and Seek with Stone... Or a challenge where you need to LOSE as quickly as possible? Does that sound fun? Hell yeah it does! And for every challenge you beat, you get a new phone to use. I think that's a bit better than a Custom Night.
Will the old easter eggs appear? - No, and mostly because I don't like adding stuff that doesn't have a canon explanation. The candy easter egg, the Toy hallucinations, and anything else like that will not return.
Will there be subtitles? - I am very keen on adding subtitles for this game. It might be VERY difficult in some circumstances (like the minigame replacement...) but we're going to try our best. It's also possible that, if we get this working, we might add additional languages after the game is released.
Will this game be colourblind-friendly? - On the topic of accessibility, YES the game will be more friendly for colourblind players! The Simon Says buttons on the desk now have big capital letters to represent each colour (G Y B P R), and the monitor in the Server Room will outright spell out each colour too.
Will Simon be redesigned? - Absolutely. In fact, the change in Simon's design is much bigger than those of the other animatronics. He is gonna look CRAZY good. Super excited!
Is FNAC still canon to POPGOES? - Yes it is. These universes are canonically mutual, so the characters can coexist. But it's unlikely that there will be any direct references to FNAC in this game, since they exist in such different time periods (and countries!)
Will there still be two endings? - I think multiple endings are such a fun, important part of any fangame, so yes Evergreen will have two endings. One normal ending, and one "true" ending that is harder to achieve (but nowhere near as stupid as the original game's... jeez).
What's the deal with the "phones"? - In Evergreen you'll be able to collect phones that you can use during gameplay. You can equip them in the menu as early as Night 1. There are 50 phones in total planned, most of which are simple (but sexy) recolours, but some of them completely change the shape of the phone!
Will there be merch of POPGOES? - Hopefully! The Fazbear Fanverse makes it possible, and it would be very cool to see it happen. Fingers crossed, but let's try to get Evergreen released first!
Will there be more after Evergreen? - If Evergreen does really well, critically and financially, then we will consider developing a sequel. Some of the things we are creating for Evergreen even have a sequel in consideration, but it's not something we are currently planning to develop. Hopefully though!
If you've got a question, ask it here and I'll add it to the post if it's a good one!
For those of you who want even more info, I consistently release exclusive content of all of my current projects to my Buy Me a Coffee members. This is not a "POPGOES donation page" - the money from this is specifically to help me with my other projects like music and YouTube - but I will sometimes show off stuff for Evergreen!
