Blog Post: Extended look at FRIEDRUNNER, Friedrich's FIRST MINIGAME! (and info on minigames in general)


Hello gamers! Welcome to 2025, otherwise known as the Year of Friedrich!! (this is an official title recognized by over 30 countries)

Last year, I teased the inclusion of minigames in Friedrich's. I went over the details in a livestream, and now that I've finally finished Minigame No. 1, I can share the details with you guys too!

During the night, slot machines have a rare chance of turning into ARCADE MACHINES.

If you click one, you'll be pulled out of the night and thrown into a minigame! Minigames can also be replayed from the Extras menu after being discovered.

The minigame you watched above is called Friedrunner! You play as the courageous and daring Friedrich, who must run as fast as possible to defeat the villainous Technicians! Tears will be shed. (Also, music was done by my good buddy @Hans-Moleman , thank you sir!)

Now, you're probably wondering, "What's with the WarioWare look?" Well, as demonstrated with Friedrunner, each minigame will come in an Easy, Medium, and Hard variant. Beating Easy will allow you to move on to Medium, and so on until you clear Hard and win! If you lose a minigame, difficulty won't advance and you'll lose a life. Guess what happens if you lose all three lives.

There will be three minigames! If you find this stuff confusing, here's a handy chart. This will be on the test.

Next up

Originally, the song "Fritter Fallen" was going to be a lot longer. However, I got a bit carried away with the cool badass guitars, and realized the tone of the song didn't really fit the melancholy ending. So I trimmed it short.

This one's a bit unfinished, but Pfingstmontag was the original draft for the Extras menu theme! I changed my mind because it seemed way too cheery, even for an Extras menu.

Just for fun, here's the first draft I ever did of Finger Lakes. I'd only written the first minute, and it left a lot to be desired.

Tomorrow will be the last song in this series, and it'll be a new song for an existing character. Can you guess who?

Here's a summary of some of the best POPGOES things that happened in 2025. What were your favourites?

The previously mentioned Friedrich's spinoff would've been a VN where you play as a detective, investigating after the events of Friedrich's. You'd meet all sorts of wacky characters, including the mysterious lady who signs the checks! This is her theme.
