I've been thinking about how to write this post for a long time, and I believe it's finally time to put it out there now that people have noticed Hypnagogia was removed from the wiki.
I've felt burnt out on FNaTI for a very long time. It was never something I truly enjoyed for what it was, and I experienced a lot of negative things while working on it and being involved with it. After my separation from Radiance, I decided to change the game so it was no longer related to their storyline. This made me question why I was still associating it with something I didn’t enjoy, especially after putting so much effort into a fangame (and there's nothing wrong with putting effort into fangames, but it wasn't fulfilling for me).
We’re almost a year into development, and I’d say there’s roughly another year left. That brings me to the main point: Hypnagogia is going to become an original game. I've been rewriting it from the ground up for the past 1-2 months, and very little of the original remains. The characters are changing a little, and the story has evolved so much that even the name is changing. The old story where the entire game was a nightmare no longer applies, and with two other games named Hypnagogia out there, it doesn’t fit this project anymore.
Another big change is I am switching engines, from Unreal Engine to S&box. There are some things tentative about this for the long term, but if any issues crop up I'll simply go back to unreal, however porting is currently going well.
What does this mean for the future? Not much. This game page is going to go silent for a few more months, when I will come back with the new name, a trailer, and a steam page for the new game. If you were only sticking with this project because it was FNaTI related now is the time to unfollow. If you were instead here as a fan of my games and what I'm doing then I think you will very much enjoy what I'm creating here.
I expect a big question people will have from this is "Will the final game be paid?" and the answer is I'm not 100% sure yet, it depends on the size and quality of the game in my eyes. I'm currently aiming for the 2-3 hour range and a self contained story, and if I hit that goal I may consider it. Some money will be going into this project for things like music and textures and I would like to make some of that back.
Thank you for sticking with me, and here's a preview of the new riverwalk in s&box. I will try to answer any questions in the comments
