#. Brief apology and plans
Changes To Dev Log Formula
What Will Be Posted From Now On
What Kind Of Updates To Expect
How Much Is Left To Finish
Reasons For This Change
I have been very busy with stuff happening in my life, I’m also sorry for promising a few posts and never getting a chance to work on them, but all of this is besides the point.
So I’m going to be making a big change on how this Dev Log will be used, as described in the following…
1 - (This Dev Log Will Be Treated As A Hub Page)
Since there will be multiple games in the VOID series, rather then making multiple Dev Logs, I’ll instead post everything relevant to VOID on this one Dev Log. With that said this means I won’t be posting the game on this page, the games will be posted as individual projects and I’ll make posts on this page announcing that game has been posted and include the links on the same post.
2 - (I’ll only be posting trailers and updates for games that are published)
Yup, I’m not going to be posting stuff on unfinished games, I have stated my point of view of posting potential spoiler content from the first dev log. So it should be no surprise that i’m making this approach, I will post trailers and content updates that will be added after posting the games on gamejolt.
3 - (What Kind Of Updates To Expect)
After a game is posted I’ll still add things to it such as…
New Areas, More Choices, More Endings, Dialogue, Optimization, Etc.
Once I’m at a point where I have some games out there for people to play, you should expect an update about every Week. Obviously every update will vary in size, but at least this way you can expect something new, even after completing the games. Now your probably finding it hard to believe i’ll be able to keep up with this, but thats not the case… Making a whole game from scratch takes a lot of time, however once the game is done it’s really easy to just add things on to it.
4 - (What Still Needs To Get Done)
If you curious on where I’m at with this new Demo, well this is whats left…
-Texture Work
-Lighting
-Animations/Cutscenes
-Voices
-Optimizations and Settings
I’m literally in arms reach of getting this done, but even for a small list of things like this, it takes some time… especially if you want it to be good quality and not rushed.
5 - (Reasons For This Change) [Optional, if your really curious on my views]
I’m going be perfectly frank here… I hate using Dev Logs…
I had no intention in making a Dev Log when VOID was first announced, one of the other guys suggested the idea and ironically enough I ended up doing most of that Dev Log while also being the one doing most of the work for the game which started to overwhelm me and that’s one of the main reasons for huge delays.
(So Basically Screw That Mess)
My original intent was to get the game done first and then start shining the spot light on it, that way I’m not making you guys wait forever. Also I’m not too big on the idea of showing off content before the game is even done.
When I was kid every game felt like a new adventure, one of the first games I ever played was Metroid Prime on the Gamecube which was an amazing experience, you want to know why it was one of the best experiences of my gamer life? Well It’s because I was thrown on this alien world and not knowing what to expect. I didn’t know what creatures I was going up against or what upgrades i’ll get or even what environments were in the game, I went through it blind and I was thrilled every step of the way.
Now when I play games I don’t get that thrill because of how much Trailers spoil and being able to see lets players go through most of the game…
The thrill is all gone when you know what to expect or have an idea of what might happen. The reason why Metroid Prime was so great was from the whole concept of not knowing, you the player had to piece that together on your own by scanning the environments and being cautious through your exploration.
So I hope you understand my stance on all of this, I guess before I go with this change it wouldn’t hurt to at least post some screenshots of the power suit you will be using in the game, so at least you can expect that pretty soon.
