Hello everyone! This week we wanted to talk in depth about the character select screen for Super Smash Bros Collision. First we´re going into it´s evolution and some different concepts we have prepared.
Evolution
The select screen as is hasn´t changed too much, we had it clear from the start, flames, white and black, and dynamic lines.

[censored, and in spanish of course]
This was our first design, looking back it was actually pretty bad but it helped us get some of the design right for some elements such as the player slots and tokens.

The second design was a already something better, you can see we had the upper buttons almost ready, and the fighters were aligned in a more pleasing way, but it´s still needed some changes.

The final design as of now has a lot more to show, the character´s slots were redising, as well as some recolored buttons, we´re going to focus on the lower part of the screen in the following concepts
Concepts
As many of you know, developing concepts is very important in the development of a game, these are some ideas we have planned for the future.

You´ve seen this screen on free for all, now let´s check it out with team battle on, just like in most smash games the player´s slots will change color to match the team, but the player´s text will remain the same color as to not confuse anyone, we really liked this design.

Every smash game has rules and they always been able to change them from the character select menu, except in Ultimate, for Collision we wanted to keep it like the old games, we´re still working on the desing, but this shows an aproximation of how it´ll work.

Just like in Ultimate, you´ll have two ways to select your skin, either with the L and R buttons or pressing on the character´s render and picking your favorite, there´s some debate in the team about includ this, but design it for now no hurt anyone.

Just like in the previous post about this screen, name tags are a smash tradition and in Collision they´re no different, it´s a pretty simple design, and if you´re wonder that little arrow icon it´s for changing characters and nothing else.

Here are some pretty big news, we showed this in a previous post but no one wanted to guess what it was so here we go.
That little button at the upper left of the player slot is planned for fighters that could have a different version of itself, kinda like Echo fighters, but we wanted to rebrand the concept of that, characters like Mario and Dr.Mario, Peach and Daisy, Marth and the rest of the Fire Emblem cast, and more.
This is something other Fighting games and some fangames have, so you can get an idea of what we want to acomplish with this idea.
Anyway, we hoped you liked this week´s post, we wanted to dump a lot of information since this part of the game is very important and it has to have a lot packed in.
Is you have any questions just leave a comment, try not to ask for anything too spoilery, Thank you for reading and see ya next week!
