Scorched

Hog is a tenrec who happens to be an alternate Sonic the Hedgehog created by a third-party group that happens to be labeled Giga. However, his creation overrode the existence of a certain hedgehog and his world, causing him to desire revenge.

The Heroic Tenrec and Spiteful Hedgehog

Hog himself is a heroic tenrec. Together with his best friend Prowler, he ventures out to stop the evil Doctor Bio "Yolkman" Mechanik from conquering planet Torus. Occasionally others like Fists, Holly or Shade and Velvet join his little quest.

On the contrary, Scorched used to be Sonic the Hedgehog, the Fastest Thing Alive. The moment a Sonic 3 & Knuckles cartridge was locked into Giga's Switch N' Play, he was sent to the void as the only survivor. Years have passed and he became a mere shadow of his former self. Having snapped, he decided to spread destruction and gain the Power Rubies using Hog as a puppet.

Appearance

Hog the Tenrec

A blue anthropomorphic tenrec looking slightly like Sonic. He has short dark blue quills and pale, pink - coral coloured skin. his mouth is rarely seen, but when it is he has small sharp teeth. he has small skin coloured tufts on the sides of his muzzle, and has very large, white connected eyes. he has black shoes, and the insides of his ears are filled with blue,

Sonic/Scorched

Before the incident, Sonic started out the same as his canon self. However, years of being in the void changed his appearance. Notable features include darker colors, fur on his belly like Hog's, and most notable are the black eyes and his large teeth.

When harnessing the power of both Power Rubies and the Giga Ruby, he assumes a larger form that meshes his appearance and Hog's together. This is his "Super form". In certain art, his arms, legs, and eyes glow yellow.

The Tale

Due to the humongous length of this story, we have decided to put up a tabber like this for your convenience. If you decide to read it, click "Show".

The story begins with a simple action of inserting a cartridge of Sonic The Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles. However it had not been put into an average Sega Genesis console. Rather, it was being integrated with a peculiar product called the “Switch N’ Play”. This add-on had been made by a third-party group that labeled itself as Giga, focused on creating extensions to already pre-existing titles. This product was made specifically for the Sonic The Hedgehog franchise, with the extensions having their very own set of twists, such as new levels and thrilling, original gameplay mechanics. The Switch N’ Play itself brought to the table their own characters. One of them was their main icon, named “Hog The Tenrec”. Characters such as him take similar aspects of their original counterparts but have their mechanics changed and visuals altered to create new gameplay experiences and inspire awe. The character roster would include Hog The Tenrec, a snarky but kind hearted hero. Despite letting his ego get the best of him sometimes, his heart was pure gold. After him Prowler The Fennec would follow. This creative genius would be able to build any type of gadget needed for any and all situations. The fennec fox would occasionally put himself on a pedestal due to his intelligence, belittling those who were not up to his level. However, he would put most of those nitpicks aside to aid in saving the day. Next up would be Fists The Porcupine, a tough as nails fighter. He would be very confident with his strength, seizing every opportunity to engage in a brawl no matter the situation. Despite his impulsive demeanor he would zeal for the safety of anything or anyone that he swore to protect. Last in line would be Dr. Bio Mechanik, nicknamed ‘’Yolkman’’ by his animal adversaries. A mad scientist with an incalculable intellect. He would always be determined to have the upper hand, regularly tricking his foes with his cunning ways or using his inventions to assure a guaranteed victory. After the insertion, everyone living within the game gets thrown into a void where hidden or unused assets go. This includes scrapped enemies, levels, sprites, music and other secrets that can only be accessed through sound test or debug mode. The Void has a unique effect. When assets are contained within it and have no major use, it strips away code in order for it to be reused later on. This also applies to characters. The process kills the cast immediately the moment they enter, leaving nothing but lifeless bodies to float endlessly in the Void to rot. This affected everybody except Sonic. The add-on does not create new coding when it comes to main character controls. It reuses the pre-existing code as a base and adds onto it to create new abilities. This important detail lets Sonic prevail even after being thrown into the Void. Sonic wakes up after being unconscious. He analyzes his surroundings and notices he is in a barren place with random objects floating around. Some perfectly cut squares of the terrain he had traversed appeared to be thrown about like a chaotic collage of random things. Bushes, trees, boulders, scrap, all floating in the air. Numbers and letters spread around the sky as if they were faint clouds. It was all very confusing to look at. After looking at everything, he decided to turn around and explore a bit more of this place but it would soon see a radical change. Dead animals were scattered on the pitch black floor. Some of them had chunks of their body missing, others had their faces ripped apart and were distorted beyond recognition. “Geez, this place is like something out of a nightmare.” - Sonic comments whilst walking amidst the chaos. He finds Tails laying on the floor, his back facing towards him. “Tails? TAILS!” - Sonic rushes over to help. “Buddy, let's get you out of here. This place is giving me the creeps!” Sonic turns Tails around. He jumps back from shock and horror. So many thoughts rushed through his head at that moment. He would murmur: ‘’No….” “No, no, NO, NO NO!” - Sonic screamed, panicked. He would then proceed to quickly pick Tails up. “I’ll find help, you’ll be fine!” - He runs aimlessly, looking in every direction for a solution. Sonic eventually slows down and stops: “How did this happen..?” - He would ask himself. “Please…don’t die on me..” “Tails…please…” - He would quietly murmur. Sonic would kneel down and cry on the body of his best friend. “I’ll find out who did this to you…” - Sonic whimpered. “I’ll not stop until I find him…” Determined to search for an answer, Sonic laid down the body of his friend and decided to scout the area to see what he could find. Some of these areas were very large and spacious. The more he searched around, the more lost he got. Minutes turned into hours. Hours turned into days. He was feeling drained. He would eventually stumble across Knuckles and Eggman. Both seemed to have been disfigured in the same way Tails was. Knuckles had chunks of his body missing. Eggman had his lower half torn off. He was so emotionally exhausted that he couldn’t feel anything towards their deaths. It seemed as if he was too drained out for him to care. At this point Sonic was starting to give up. It was hopeless, he thought. He laid down, waiting for something, anything to happen. It was all so quiet, he would start to hallucinate and hear things, like birds chirping and wind calmly passing through the plants. It all felt so real to him. He missed it very much. In his own head he could hear the sound of people speaking. He missed resting near a palm tree with his best buddy, as he rambled on and on about nerdy stuff. “Wait a minute.” - Sonic would open his eyes and snap out of his flashback. He looks to his right side and notices a shred of light. Voices could be heard coming out from it but it was all muffled. They were too far away for him to make out what they were saying... “Hey, over here!” - He heard from the light. The voice sounded familiar. It sounded like.. “Tails..?” - Sonic wondered. The feeling of hope soon filled Sonic’s heart. Maybe all of this was just a nightmare. Maybe he will wake up soon. He noticed that his legs were weakened. It was slightly painful to run now. But despite that he forced himself to run. “Come on, you can do it!” - The voice motivated him. “Tails, I’m coming, wait!” - Sonic reassured his buddy, filled with more hope as he moved onward. “There we go! Took you a bit, huh?” - The voice spoke in a playful manner. “Wait, what?” - Sonic, slowing his pace, started becoming confused and cautious. “Phew! Yeah sorry about that Prowler. I really gotta lay off those corn dogs!” - Uttered an unknown voice. “It’s fine, let's keep moving, you never know when-” Prowler unknowingly steps into a trap and gets his leg tied by a rope, leaving him dangling. “Hahahaha! If it isn’t Hog the Tenrec!” - The notorious Doctor Yolkman made his grand reveal. "Yolkman!" - Hog and Prowler were surprised by the sudden appearance of the mad doctor. Sonic would look at the screen, visibly confused. It all looked so different yet felt so familiar. “Hello? Can anyone hear me?!” - Sonic screams, calling out for them. The characters seemed to be unaware of Sonic’s presence. As if he was some sort of ghost behind a screen. "What are you scheming now, Yolkface?!" - Hog asks the mad doctor. “Well I’m not gonna tell you like some bumbling idiot, I-” - Yolkman would then get interrupted. “High energy levels detected. Tracking…” - Announced the integrated system. “Power Rubies detected. Displaying coordinates!” “Curses! Engage silent mode! Order 10!” - Yolkman hits a button in his Yolk Mobile in order to avoid any other information getting to his nemesis ears. “Sounds like a race then, huh?” - Said Hog smugly. “A race indeed. But what’s that over there!” - Yolkman hurriedly points to his left. “Huh?” - Hog looks in the direction the doctor pointed at. Having distracted Hog, the cunning genius quickly presses a button in his aircraft. The Yolk Mobile would deploy two laser cannons in an instant and one of them would fire at Hog. The shot would make the tenrec fling backwards. “Bwahahahaha! Au revoir, rodent!” - Yolkman flies away to get his hands on the rubies. Hog would get up and clean the dirt off of him. “Darn it! Well, I guess It’s up to us now.” “True! However, there's an itsy, teensy problem with that.” - Prowler says to Hog. “Oh, what is it?” - He turns to look at Prowler “I’M STILL TRAPPED UP HERE!” - Prowler shouts angrily. “Oh, right. Sorry!” - Hog says as he walks up to him. As the situation continued to unravel, Sonic would look at the screen, intrigued at the fact that these people acted the same way everyone did in his world but with some slight changes. “Huh. It’s almost like I’m looking through a distorted mirror." - Sonic would comment. “Maybe there’s a way for me to contact them. I just gotta figure out how.” - Sonic would start to ponder while scratching his chin. For days Sonic would analyze Hog’s world and how it functioned. He would make theories or possible ways for him to make his presence known or anything that could get their attention. As time went on and the many attempts of him trying to make contact, it seemed each and one of his plans would not work. He was running out of ideas. “Ugh! Nothing is working!” - Sonic would say in his frustration. His anger would subside and his mind would wonder for a bit. He would then remember Tails. “If only I had you to help me with this.” - Solemnly, Sonic would put his hand on the monitor. “I miss you Tails....” - Sonic would look down at the floor, his sorrow taking over. In that same moment, Sonic would hear footsteps around him. The blue hedgehog would be completely taken off guard, as he thought he was the only one in here. Despite being somewhat anxious about approaching the area where the noises came from, he thought that maybe there could be someone in there who was willing to help him escape this place. He decided to take the risk and go towards the source of the footsteps. When he arrived, all he could see was a silhouette. It did not look familiar until a glimmering light revealed who it was. It was Tails, supposedly alive once again. He did not appear harmed as he was before, his amber fur and white accents were brightly colored, and the fur itself was not madded or dirtied. “Tails..?” - Sonic asked with an astonished look on his face. “H-How? I thought you were dead!’’ “Hello Sonic.” - Said Tails in a gloomy tone. Sonic rushes over to Tails to embrace him. “Oh buddy, I’m so glad you’re okay!” - Sonic would squeeze him in his arms. “Alright, let’s get outta here! Maybe you could find a way to-” Tails would interrupt him: “You don’t have much time, Sonic.” - Tails said harrowingly. “What do you mean?” - Sonic asks, confused by his words. “Take a look.” - A reflective surface would materialize in front of Sonic, acting like a mirror. Sonic would take a good look at the mirror and see himself. “Well, I don’t see anything wrong so far, I mean I do look pretty- AAH!” Sonic, petrified by the sight, yelps and falls backwards. In a flash, the reflection would reveal his true appearance. His fur and skin were darkened in color. His lips were starting to crack and rip, showing raw flesh. The skin of his arms were beginning to sag and wrinkle. “W-What’s happened to me??” - Sonic said, horrified. “You’re withering away. This place is slowly killing you, Sonic.” - Tails would reply with no emotion on his face. “You have to get out of here quickly Sonic, or else you’ll fade away into nothing.” “I’ve tried everything! Nothing works!” - Sonic would answer with frustration and fear in his voice. “Not everything.” - Tails would correct him. “Huh? What do you mean?” Tails would approach the screen, distorting and corroding it with his touch. “What are you doing?” “Giving you the answer.” - Tails replies. The screen would reveal a radiant Power Ruby, slowly rotating and glowing. “A gem? How’s THAT gonna help me?” - Sonic would reply with arrogance. “It will connect you to their world.” - Tails replies. He begins to instruct him. “If you somehow break the barrier between here and their world, you’ll be able to become one with them and make your presence known.” “But how am I gonna break a barrier that I don’t even know about? I’m in the middle of NOWHERE!” - Sonic began to get frustrated. This would be for Sonic to figure out on his own, as the vision of Tails promptly ignored the question, walking away as if his job were finished. “H-Hey, buddy! Where are you going? Tails!” - Sonic would start to sprint towards him, trying to follow him. “TAILS, COME BACK! DON’T LEAVE ME HERE!” - Sonic ran as fast as he could, but Tails walked further away, blending into the Void’s dark shadow. “Tails..? TAILS!” - Sonic begins to shout at nothing, hoping to find his friend. Sonic would slow down as he began to feel a sharp pain in his legs. The effects were now starting to become very apparent to him and much harder to ignore. The only thing that hurt more than the state of his legs was him being alone once again. “Please… come back.” - Sonic says through his quiet desperation. After the first encounter, Sonic would sit next to the monitor, constantly watching Hog’s moves. He was trying to figure out how that gem would connect him to their world. Several days passed as he kept trying to understand without any success. As the hedgehog kept thinking to himself, another figure would approach Sonic. This time it was Knuckles. “Sonic.” - Knuckles sternly says his name. “Knuckles?!” - Sonic jumps from the sudden mention of his name. “What are you doing here? How are you-” “You’re running out of time, Sonic.” - Knuckles cut him off mid sentence. Sonic for a moment goes quiet, looking at Knuckles. “Knuckles, I’m trying. I really am-” “You’re not trying hard enough. You’re growing weaker. Softer.” - The echidna scolds Sonic. Sonic again goes silent, reflecting on Knuckles’s words. “They replaced you, Sonic.” “They took everything from you because you were weak.” “Now, you’re nothing but just a fading memory.” “And soon enough you’ll be forgotten.” Sonic starts to get angered by Knuckles’s words. “You don’t know what you’re talking about.” - He gets up and approaches Knuckles. “I’ll get out of here and I’ll prove it.” “And how will you do that, Sonic?” - Knuckles asks. “How will you free yourself from this place? You don’t even know where to begin.” “Wow. Shocker.” - Sonic would sarcastically reply. “Your sarcasm won’t help you either. Don’t waste time.” “I’ll find a way out. Leave me alone.” - Sonic answers, walking back to the monitor and returning to what he was doing. The echidna takes one last look at the broken down hedgehog. He turns around and walks away into the darkness. Time and time again, Sonic would try to think of a way to get out. But he would always remain stumped on what to do. Each day seemed to be a struggle. He was trying to keep himself together, but his mind was starting to be affected by the Void. Knuckles’s words echoed through his head. It seemed as if it was haunting him every living moment. Was he going mad? He could not tell. One day, a third figure would appear. It was Eggman. “Ah, my old nemesis. Sonic the Hedgehog. Or at least, what’s left of him.” Sonic would remain silent but still pay attention to the scientist. ‘’Time is slowly draining away. Though I am certain you already know that by now hedgehog.’’ Sonic would look at him but then turn his head back to the monitor. Eggman would wander around behind him and look in the distance. ‘’It’s a shame I never discovered this place. It would’ve made for such a wicked scheme. Sending you here and trapping you, maybe even see you lose your mind in the process. What a delight! Wouldn’t you agree?’’ Despite Eggman's words, Sonic kept focusing on the monitor. Eggman hunches over and takes a look for himself. ‘’You know, if I had to dictate the worst aspect about you, besides the fact that you are so adamant in ruining my plans, it would be the fact that you always expect the solution to be right in front of you. Quite disappointing, really.’’ Sonic would look at the scientist’s face, annoyed. ‘’No need for that look, hedgehog. But wouldn’t you suspect there is
