The jam is over! Congratulations to all the winners!
Here's a peak at what we've been working on in the meantime...
The major feedback we received was the information overload/lack of tutorial being a big barrier to entry for new players, so we've been trying to resolve this through the following;
Tutorials
We've started work on a comprehensive in-game tutorial, with information appearing as events occur in the form of these toast messages. Hopefully this doesn't overload the player as the messages are short and focused to the current situation at a given time.
Ideally we'd also develop a full hand-holding tutorial but this is a good stopgap for now.
Difficulty select
The main menu now has an extra UI state for selecting the difficulty/length of your next run. Players can decide on the size of the grid and the number of Graboids they'll face, as well as toggling the tutorial messages on/off.
We hope this will be a smoother learning curve as players could start off on the 10x10 grid vs 1 Graboid while learning the ropes and following the tutorials, and still be able to unlock new cards!
Thanks for reading
What do you think? Is there anything else we can add to help ease new players into the game?
