Hey everybody, meet Sink. I’m sure you’ll be hearing a lot more about this burgeoning talent in the future. She’s actually been releasing small, cute, free games since at least 2013, but Crowtel is such a fully formed experience that it’s really putting her on the map.
In the anthropomorphic world of Crowtel, you are cast in the role of a crow named Crow, owner of a dilapidated hotel. One day, a pair of feline health inspectors show up, so you stall them while you set off to start making repairs.
The place is not only a pigsty, but a real safety hazard. Killer bugs roost in the halls, acid drips from the ceiling, and giant, rolling balls of laundry threaten to smash anyone in their way, to name just a few of the health issues. You can protect yourself and make repairs with your birdsong, by slinging a series of notes at your foes.
As you progress through the floors, you’ll come across new dangers, and there’s always a clever surprise around the corner. New enemies and twists in the gameplay will keep you amused and on your toes. Things get not only more challenging, but more surreal, and it becomes apparent that the real heart of the hotel’s problem is probably supernatural in nature. And that poor guy in 2A thought it was just a plumbing issue.
The jaunty chiptune soundtrack by Captain Beard is a perfectly whimsical compliment to Crow’s adventure. You can pick up the remastered soundtrack on Bandcamp. It’s sure to improve any mood.
If you’ve ever enjoyed a platformer, I implore you to play Crowtel. It oozes charm, wit, and a real love of the medium. By the way, if the game appears blurry when you launch it, go to the options menu and set the zoom lower. I play at 3x.
You can name your own price for Crowtel (Windows).
