Current Gamedev Report (November 2017)

Long time, no see everyone! I haven’t posted anything in a long while since I have been quite busy with school and life, and I have also had a lot on my mind the last few months. This post is going to summarise a lot of the stuff that has been happening the last few months, as well as information on the future of LeozUniverse.

To put it into a short a paragraph, after the release of LeoWars Remastered, I got very lazy with game development as a whole. This small break I was having turned into around 3 months of no work at all, which I’m really not proud of. The main reason I got nothing done was because of my laziness, and also because of my lack of motivation. I always wanted to get something done in my head, but I didn’t know what, and that lack of good ideas really unmotivated me. Very recently I got my first full review of this game. The review looked to be very harsh, stating that “nearly every aspect is terrible” and the only good things about it were that is was free and short. As much as I feel a lot more unmotivated about the review, the comments made were very understandable and I can agree with it for the most part. There isn’t much to talk about from in the 3-month break since nothing significant happened in that time. The only other aspect of my life that has affected my game development time is my mental health. I’ve been feeling a lot more unhappy this year, almost kinda “depressed” in a way. It really doesn’t help at all, and it makes things worse for my life and my motivation to do what I love doing. Making games!

This leads to the future of my games…

As of now, I don’t know what will come next (game-wise), since my ideas at the moment are very bland. I recently announced a new LeoWars game to the series, but that will no longer be happening. Sorry if anyone was excited about this new game, but it’s for the best. It would have been a very repetitive and similar style to LeoWars Remastered, which I can see (judging by the review) will need some significant changes. I will not be going back to the random battle gameplay style for a long while until I figure out the best and most enjoyable way to approach it. My next game will be something new. I need to do something I don’t like doing; going out of my comfort zone. Usually, I would stick to RPG games in the form of LW, but I cant stick to that forever and the truth about how enjoyable that kind of gameplay has really come upon me now.

As of now, the LeoWars series if official over. It had a lot of flaws including the repetitive battle system, the lack of story and the “no attempt at humor”. I hope some people had a good time playing the LW games, but the series was always destined to end.

So, what now? Where do I go from here you may ask? WELL! For me, I will be making a few differences to my games and to my workflow in order to make sure my games are as good as they can be and so that I can get my head down a lot more and work to my full potential! I’ve had a lot of support from a lot of very kind people on twitter, which I really appreciate and it really boosts my motivation to see that some people care about what I do! (Thank you guys :3)

Well, that’s it for me at the moment! Hope you guys have a great day and I will get back to the drawing board!

No more breaks from me! It’s time to get back to work!

Ps - Thank you for reading!
