Cut Content


Today i will share with you some of the cut content from Rolling Rampage!
Some of the stuff may appear again in later versions (if i want to add more to it), but for now they are not in the game for time constraints for when this project has to be handed in for marking.

One thing that was a part of the initial idea was an enemy cube that had a cartoony gun. This was removed for a few reasons, mainly because I didn’t know how to create a working projectile launcher and I wasn’t sure if I could use guns in my game. There was another cube that was like the flame gunner and water gunner that would use an electric weapon to shoot forward, I left it out because I felt that the game didn’t need any more enemies that have elemental weapons.

Another thing that was cut was another playable character that could use a sword to damage and pushback enemies. It never got past the initial ideas stage before I realised there wouldn’t be enough time to put it in. The character itself wouldn’t take long to make, about 2 weeks at the most, but it would require several levels that make use of the character’s abilities which could take much longer, around about a month longer.

There were also several power ups that I wanted to add that I never added. One of them was a magnet power-up that would draw in cubes but it would also draw in enemy cubes, this was very ambitious as I had no idea how to start coding this. Another power up that was later made useless was the Jump power up, I could have got it working as soon as I made the second character, eyepatch, but it felt pointless as one character could do this without the power up. There was a charge power up that was never added, it would propel the player forward when they pressed a specific button, it was never added as all the levels didn’t require it to beat it, so t would have been pointless. The last cut power up was an electric power up, it would protect the player from electric based attacks and electric hazards, but since there were never any electric hazards it was pointless.

There were several cut levels from the game, some evolved to become something else, whereas others where never made. One level was a factory, that had electrical based enemies and would make use of the electric power up. It wasn’t added because I already had a factory level in the game being Chapter 4: Area Squared. There was also going to be a level which was about Knox (the villain for the secondary story) and Eyepatch, which detailed how they became enemies, it was going to have the player be a younger version of eyepatch with a younger version of Knox following them around helping the player out when necessary. This was too ambitious as it required a whole new set of coding for the Knox follower, that was way out of my knowledge of unity.
