Day 133: Today, I should’ve done more. I finished the room congis early. But instead of doing more, I just called it a day. I’m sure I would’ve just wasted time on another day anyway. So instead I went grocery shopping. If you consider that to food is necessary for me to make my game, then buying some food should be considered work right?
Daily interesting stuff:
Reddit post, Oregon trail dev earned noting. This was good to know. Crazy thing IP right in the video game industry.
Reddit post, person worried that a short game will get refunds. It quickly turned into a debate whenever time should be an important deciding factor for games. I think it’s quite important. But some short experience are cool too. Best exemple stanley parable. I spend a grand total of 3 hours on this game. But I would never even consider getting a refund for it.
Reddit post, is Unity considered ok by employers?. It’s nice to see this question because I’m wondering that myself. Unfortunately there’s not enough answers to have a good overview of what the recruiters may think. But the few responses said that making games matter more than the tools used to do it. I hope that’s true.
Tasks done:
Copied some rooms to the zone 3. Yes it’s the exact same thing as yesterday. Yes I’m copy-pasting parts of yesterday log. No I don’t care. Yes love pancakes. So like last time, I took some rooms at random and copied to the new zone. But this time I did it with the windows explorer rather than in Unity. This meant that if there were a duplicate, I would get notified. Much easier that way. Then I took all the rooms of the zone and assigned them the right material. Bla, bla, bla, temp material, need to assign one to make rooms green. See yesterday log for details (or don’t I don’t care).
Did the enemy configuration for 75 rooms. Yes that’s less than yesterday. But it’s still all the rooms in the third zone. I could’ve continued and make more rooms. But if I did, I probably would’ve just lose more time tomorrow. So like I said in the header, instead, I went grocery shopping. I bought some sponges (that are said to not damage pans). I also bought a lot of food. What? You don’t care? Right, I didn’t realized than listing the things I bought would be totally uninteresting. Or maybe I knew, and I used this as an excuse to make a bad joke, who knows?
Started giving information about myself for the indie booth I was talking about yesterday. It’s in Lyon in April, so I thought it would be a good occasion to show the game and gather feedback. I estimated that it’ll cost me around 100 euros. And I plan no ROI what so ever since the game will be free. But at least I can say that I’m a professional doing professional things. You know like real indies do?
