Day 154: Today is a bit weird. You see, it’s Monday. Last friday, I was too sick to work. I tried to, and did a bit of work. But I was just a squishy blob. So I went to sleep all day. Then I went to Paris for the week-end to do some localization for Mozilla. I was still sick, but it was already planned. I showed my game there to a few people. And then today I worked normally.
Daily interesting stuff: I have nothing for you today. I read some stuff, but nothing I found was interesting to share. I think this totally due to my antipathy with Monday.
Tasks done:
Finished the french localization for my game. That was sooo long and sooo boring. I didn’t think it was still a day worth of work. But I had to translate all the ships texts (names, descriptions, power, and power description). Then I had to translate all the upgrades. And then the end cut scene. Oh and if you don’t know french is longer than english. So I had to cut stuff all the time. And in the end I can’t shake the feeling that the french version is way worse. That’s weird since it’s my mother tongue. But all the text in this game is about being explicative in the shortest possible way. And french isn’t so good at this. I still could place some “easter eggs” that I like, so I guess that’s ok. Well, I don’t have much more to say about this. It took a lot of time but it doesn’t take much space in the log. So it seems like I did nothing all day… I mean I didn’t even made a button to change the language. But I’m still ending the sprint because I have so little to say today.
Sprint end: This concludes the “technical sprint”. I did some small features and bug fixing that crawled through the beta. Now I should really have everything in the game. I still have some fixing and improving to do, but that’s for the next sprint, the “Balance & Polish” sprint.
What went wrong:
Got sick. That made loose a day. And now I’m late. Plus I hate being sick.
Why did I ever decide to make a french version ?
What went right:
Straightforward sprint. Did What needed to be done.
I have now all the features! And even some useless stuff. It feels somewhat good to have a project where I can do some “useless” features.
