Day 160: Today I’m announcing that I’ll put the project in hiatus for a while. I know, I know, you’re wondering how you’re going to live while not being able to read this log everyday. But you know, Ubisoft called this morning and told me that I’m good to go for the next stage of the recruitment process, but that they’re doubting my C++ skills so they might test me again. And now, that I’m quite close to landing that job, I really want it. So to maximize my chances, I decided to focus on C++ at least until this recruitment process is over. Yeah, this means that I won’t release the game by the end of the month like I wanted. But hey, I originally planed to release it next month, so in a way I’ll be on time. This is actually hard to do. I wanted to finish this project and then move on. It feels a bit like giving up, and I don’t like it. But I think that’s the best for my career.
Daily interesting stuff:
Article about the difficulty of getting a job in the video game industry. I didn’t really like this article. Especially the comparison with athletes. Devs aren’t multi-millionaire superstars. That’s just a job. I think it isn’t good to view an industry job as a super chance. And that you have to work non-stop free for years to have to opportunity to work in it. Yes it’s competitive, but it’s just a job.
Tasks done:
Well, not much since I decided to work on some C++. So I really did that all day.
But I did send a mail for the conference I’m going to this week end. I need to know if I can arrive on Saturday, so that I can save the costs of getting tickets for friday. The guy that’s organizing this, replied right away. And so I also checked the train tickets and timings, to be sure. It’s more expensive than I though. I guess that’s what happens when you wait until the very end. I thought the bus tickets were on a stable price. But they aren’t :/ It’s isn’t horrible really. But still 11euros per ticket. That’s around 50 euros for the weekend. That’s the price I paid for the booth! But well, what can you do?
