Demo Patched to Version 0.1.2 + Full Game Release Date Changed

How’s it going, Fallers? It’s time for an update! First off, I’ve patched the demo version of the game to Version 0.1.2 in order to implement a few fixes.

Version 0.1.2 Changelog:

  • After entering the Mystery Shack for the first time and triggering the cutscene, the player is now unable to leave until they speak to the merchant character. This is due to some players leaving the Shack without speaking to the merchant, resulting in them missing the free item he gives you as well as the chance to upgrade their equipment and buy items.

  • Minor dialogue changes to improve clarity.

If you’ve already downloaded a previous version, make sure to delete ALL PQ2D DATA, INCLUDING SAVE DATA, from your computer before downloading the update! This is the reduce the risk of issues caused by files from older versions being incompatible with newer versions.

I also have an unfortunate, but necessary announcement…
The release date for the full version of PinesQuest 2D has been changed to June 18th, 2017.

“Whaaaaaat!? But that’s almost a year away!” I hear you cry in agony! I know, it sucks! Trust me, no matter how much you want this game to be finished, I want it to be done a thousand times more! But at this point, I’m pretty much flying solo as far as developing it. The past several months I’ve done absolutely everything in my power to get other people to help me with the game on a consistent basis, but it just hasn’t worked out. The thing I’ve needed the most assistance with has been creating new graphical assets, and finding an experienced pixel artist who is a fan of Gravity Falls and has both the time and willingness to work for free has been a tall order… one I haven’t been and probably won’t be able to fill.

This is really the most difficult part about creating a fangame. Because it’s not something that’s going to make any money, I can’t pay or hire anyone to work on it. Fangames are a labor of love, and like with any labor of love that doesn’t pay the bills, it has to take a backseat to life’s priorities. I wish I could spend all day every day working on this game, but sadly I can’t. I just started my senior year of college so my only chance to work on it is during my free time, which I never have enough of.
That’s why I’ve decided my new goal date for releasing the completed version of the game is June 18th, 2017 - Alex Hirsch’s 32nd birthday. I want it to be my gift to him and the entire Gravity Falls fandom. Hopefully said fandom is still around by then. :’)

From now on I’m also going to try to post more updates and work-in-progress elements to try and keep up the interest… there may even be a few other surprises too! Thank you so much to everyone who’s played the demo version and for following the development of this game so far! I hope you continue to and I promise, I’m going to do my best to make sure the full version of PinesQuest 2D worth the wait!

Stay weird as always, my fellow Fallers <3
