# Desolo Zantas — A Story-Driven Celeste Mod


After nearly **two years** of dreaming, building, and grinding on this Celeste mod mostly by myself, I finally have enough resources to take a real shot at it. So I'm opening it up: if you're part of the Celeste modding community and you want to help bring **Desolo Zantas** across the finish line, I'd love to hear from you.

No trailer, no screenshots yet — the mod isn't done, and I'd rather wait until things are polished before showing footage. For now, here's the pitch and an FAQ.

## What is the story about?

### Part 1 — What's in the mod so far

The first part of Desolo Zantas takes place **9 years after Granny's passing**, and **10 years after Madeline climbed Mount Celeste**.

Something goes very wrong on the mountain. The legend that's been told all this time isn't the full story — there was a truth Granny never got the chance to share with Madeline. By the time Madeline and Badeline get there, they run into a fallen child named **Chara**, the first fallen human to have climbed this mountain and freed the Monsters trapped within.

Then things spiral. **Madeline goes missing**, **Badeline barely escapes the hellish world below**, and that's where **you** come in — playing as **Kirby**, teaming up with Badeline to go rescue Madeline.

### Part 2 — Not started yet (teaser)

The second part picks up *after* you reach beyond the summit and depart Celeste Mountain entirely. As everyone flies off through deep space, a rift opens out of nowhere and pulls them all in.

You end up stranded on a floating mountain drifting in the event horizon — **Desolo Zantas** itself, an alternate version of Celeste that's bigger, more advanced, and far more dangerous than anything before. The goal: climb all the way back up to the peak and cross the rainbow bridge to the castle, where Madeline has **one wish** she'll need to use very carefully.

Expect a lot more **Seekers**, a lot of **dark matter**, and only limited help from the Monsters you met earlier. You don't have to fight through everything — you can swap between **Kirby** and **Madeline** depending on the room. Kirby trades familiar Celeste moves for more advanced running, dashing, and fighting options, so you can pick whichever character fits the situation best.

## FAQ

### Q1: Is Kirby actually compatible with Celeste's mechanics?

**Yes.** Kirby is fully playable and compatible for anyone who wants to try the Kirby character.

### Q2: Will there be bosses other than Badeline?

**Yes** — there are going to be **50+ bosses** across Desolo Zantas. You'll see plenty of them in the mod.

### Q3: Does Kirby get copy abilities?

**Yes** — **30+ copy abilities** are planned, each with their own useful skills.

### Q4: How many rooms are there going to be?

About **2,000+ rooms**. Yeah, lmao.

### Q5: Will there be a collab?

Sadly **no** — but there are smaller, more Kirby-flavoured maps that I'm calling **sub-chapters** ;)

### Q6: Will there be D-Sides?

**Absolutely yes.**

### Q7: When will Part 1 be published?

It depends on how the Celeste modding community reacts to it — whether they like it or not, I'll keep iterating and fixing things whenever I can based on feedback.

### Q8: If I help, will I get paid?

It depends on my budget, and I'm **very limited** when it comes to sending money over PayPal or Cash App. In general, payment will only go out for something special or critical that I really need. Please don't apply expecting a paycheque.

### Q9: Why did you choose Lua and C#?

Celeste itself is written in **pure C#**, so all mod gameplay code is C#. **Lua** is what the Celeste map editor (**Lönn**) uses — I've leaned on it a lot for editing, but I'm not great at building whole maps from scratch, so I also use **procedural content generation** to speed things up. It wasn't easy, but I eventually got everything working in-game. There are still some bugs I'd love extra programmers to help me with on both the Lua and C# side.

### Q10: How long have you been working on this?

Almost **2 years**. And if you're about to ask *"when will it be done?"* — it's not done yet, so please be patient.

### Q12: Is there a Discord server I can join?

**No** — moderating a whole server would be too much on top of development. You're welcome to add me directly instead.

- **C# programmers** — Everest / Celeste mod code, gameplay systems, bug fixes for both Kirby and Madeline.

- **Lua / Lönn mappers** — Map editing, entity plugins, and editor tooling.

- **Playtesters** — Especially for bosses, Kirby mechanics, copy abilities, and D-Side difficulty tuning.

- **Art & audio contributors** — If you're interested, reach out and we can talk about scope.
