Greetings everyone!
It’s been a while we decided to write an article about the news and upgrades, and it has been even further since we upgraded the game itself. While many of you speculated that the game has been cancelled, it’s not true. In fact, my goal is still to make it an as memorable experience as possible in the indie scene, but it has a price. In short: I don’t want to release an unfinished game that is “better than nothing”.
The longer version is a bit more complicated.
When I was in University, I had the chance to move away from home to my grandmother’s house. While I was studying, I was able to work on the game for a while without anyone disturbing me. Not just I had the chance to work on it, but also a great team helped my work and we could contribute to make the demo, and some of the assets you could see in the pictures uploaded (yes, these exists and not just some “mock-up pictures”).
Well, the thing is, that after University, everything that could go wrong, simply went wrong.
I had to move back to my hometown, because I couldn’t stay there anymore. Not just that, but I couldn’t move back home either and I had to find a job as soon as possible. The past few months was spent on trying to find a job, and my parents’ only decided to take me back when they saw that I couldn’t find any job at all. Using all my savings to pay not just the livelihood, but graphic artists of the project, I went completely broke when I finally found a job that actually paid well. But the thing is: it consumes all my free time. I literally have to work even at the weekends, but I was glad that I at least can spend it on the project.
If only it was the end of the story.
The graphic artists simply decided to reply to my message less and less, and they even were late with the jobs even though they were completely paid. The shit hit us when they decided to leave the project and didn’t even finish many of the assets they were creating.
Ironically, the game is in a state that it is almost finished script, story, and music-wise, and all we need is some graphic designs. But because the original artists left the project, we’d have to either start it from the beginning, or the better option is to find someone who can replicate the overall style (especially for the maps), and we can work it on.
That, or we scrap the current graphics and do an overhaul for the game. If we go by this, we FINALLY could start working on it, but it would mean delaying the project - again. Especially since both me and Greg (the only other guy staying in this project) are working in full-time jobs and couldn’t manage it as much as we could.
OR we do a Kickstarter/Patreon. With that, we could actually afford several graphic artists, even in our country and we could definitely finish it soon enough… but that would go against our promise that we’d never charge money for it.
The only thing I regret is that I didn’t inform you about this sooner, but the thing is: I’m still unsure about the outgoings. I’m trying to contact the original artists but they completely blocked me and don’t even reply anymore, and day by day I’m trying to find new faces to the project that are willing to do the work, as fast as possible.
Well, that’s all for now. Feel free to comment and tell US your opinion, as this game is for YOU. And I mean it. If it wasn’t for you guys who gave me support and nice comments in the past few months, the past few years, I’d definitely give up for now. But because you did see potential in it, I simply want to finish it once and for all, not just because it is a project of mine that I love to do, but because I want to make it, for you.
Best wishes, and hopefully we all gonna have an awesome 2017.
~Ben
