Hello everyone!
It's been too long. I haven't written an update in a hot second.
Before I talk about the status of the game, I'll explain about the lack of updates.
I won't get into too much detail, but things have been incredibly eventful and busy for me in my personal life. And that has been stopping me from working on this project. But most of that is over now, and I am finally able to put more work into the game.
I'm sorry if it felt like we abandoned the game, but that's not the case. Things happened, and it couldn't be helped. Anyway... What's up with the game now?
Once again, I've made some changes that I think are for the better. First: I've decided to cut down on most gameplay bits and keep the game primarily focused on the story. Why? I think the story matters more and since I have had some trouble with the mini-games in the past I thought I might as well do this instead. It will also speed up development.
But that doesn't mean ALL gameplay is gone, though! The game still isn't just scrolling through text... There's still the Janitor sequence in-between days, RPG battle stuff... And a few other stuff that I have yet to show off.
While we're talking about gameplay, I am happy to say that the game is FULLY PLAYABLE TO THE END. ...To some extent. You can go through each day, pick your route and get an ending. All that's missing now is most of the story bits in between all of that.
I'm finally going to share a new primary feature to Freddy's Spontaneous Day Job. Say hello to... Substories!
Substories are... Well, short substories. Interact with your co-workers, and they will talk to you about their woes. If you're feeling kind enough to help them, they will give you nifty items or upgrades that you can unlock permanently upon completing them! (The story may be affected, too...!)
Speaking of the story, here's an addition we thought would be cool. During key-moments in the story, there will be special artwork for that particular scene. Once you get to these scenes, you can view them without any dialogue in the way inside the extras menu.
Here's a preview for one. You'll have to play through the game to see the rest, though.
That's all I have to share for now. It's not very much, but that's what I have to share for now. Since I finally have the time, I will start pouring more of my time into this game. If things go smoothly I expect to have the game mostly completed sometime around the start of summer. But who knows, maybe it will be another October 15th. (But don't count on that. If you've been following the game's development for a while, you'd know that expected dates/times don't seem to work out most of the time.)
Also, I've decided to close the FSDJ Discord server. It still exists, but I've turned invites off. I don't have time to moderate it anymore, and nobody seems to be willing to do that for me. So I've closed it off for now. I may open it back up again sometime when the game is finished and I have found moderators. But even then I'm not too sure about reopening the server.
I won't be doing monthly updates anymore, either. I will make a post whenever there's been an accomplishment made.
Thanks for reading, and thank you for the support!
