Devlog #0 - Welcome to Project SpaceVille

First, A Little Bit About The Team…
Hello! :)

We’re two students from Portugal, and we’re part of a team called FAXIME. This is the first time we’re posting on GameDev, so cheers to everyone. :)
Both of us are currently learning programming and game developing. Last semester, we were asked to develop a game, and so this is how we started this project we’re going to talk to you about. But first, let’s talk a little bit about us.

Hi! My name is Gil, I’m 20 years old, and I’m currently a programmer and game designer in this project. I’m on my senior year in college, studying video game engenieering. My high school specialization is in social economics. I’m a big fan of Nintendo since a young child and love the action adventure and puzzle genres, in the likes of The Legend of Zelda series. I’m really excited for working on this project, since I’ve been playing games like Harvest Moon and Animal Crossing since their first entries on their respective series.

Hello! I am Teresa, I’m 20 years old and I’m from Madeira Island. I’m working only as a programmer on this project. I’m on the same class as Gil, so we’ve been working together since freshmen year. During high school I specialized in physics and chemistry. I gained a lot of curiosity on how things work since I’ve been a gamer since a little girl therefore I pursued my studies in the game development area.

Now, About Our Project…

The project we’re developing is game in the life-simulator genre for mobile platforms (iOS/Android). We took heavy inspiration from games like Animal Crossing, but we’re also inspired by the likes of Harvest Moon and Stardew Valley. Like in these games, the player needs to manage his community and his relationships with each villager and achieve his own life goals. The game’s main audience is people of all ages and genders. But, we’ll talk about the game in more detail, and what we have achieved so far in the next DevBlog.

The development of the game has been challenging so far, since we haven’t developed games for Android with Unity before, so some restrictions apply. But so far it’s been a fun ride, and we’ve learned a lot.

See you soon! ;)

We made a lot of improvements on the Freezing Plains visual. Things like pine trees, tiny bushes, some rocks, and others game props!

Sometimes the suction cup get sticky. Small animation I made in Blender after doing my tutorial on picking up/dropping objects in animations. Crate model by jQueary (https://sketchfab.com/3d-models/game-ready-sci-fi-crate-d98deca6…).

Back in my art school days I used to ride the 710 COPSA line from Parque Del Plata to Montevideo almost everyday. This is the Marcopolo Viaggio G4 Mercedes Benz model from the late 80s, one of the older bus models that was running on the line.

A house I've built a while ago. :)

It nicely separates the snowy biome from the grassy one.

It's built with painted Ebonstone.

Made my first ever animation.

not the greatest house, but it's a house! :D

We're knee deep in multiple large features and "game feel". Quick peek behind the scenes in this weeks Dev Blog: https://bit.ly/2QmmaQM
